I can't tell you what it is, but I can tell you that it is not a Red Tail.

We now have a winner, it is a red-shouldered hawk. The banded tail was a clue that the bird in the pic was not a red tail.

Yep, they keep the little rodents at bay.

Unless you're a cat owner, that's not a bad trade-off IMO. 😰

Dang, I woulda betcha anything it was a quail.

I haven't seen one yet, but we're starting to get some bald eagles in the area. 👍

From google photos, I think you're right.

We have a lot of falcons in the Atlanta area, and I was surprised on seeing one for the first time just how small they are. When I used to spend a lot of time down town, I'd see them all the time, and I'm not talking about NFL players, either . . .

On my way out of the neighborhood this morning, I saw a red tailed hawk, standing on the sidewalk, with fresh caught breakfast. He stood there for a while. Two kids even came out, walked to their mailbox, and I don't know if they ever noticed this big bird standing 15 feet from them. The hawk never moved...perhaps he was considering trading up his fresh catch (chipmunk?) for one of the small children.

I saw the big one(must be the daddy) on Saturday up in the tree with a small cat. As he started to tear into it the three small ones came up looking for a hand out. They are incredible. and not so many strays or squirrels anymore.

Seriously? A cat?

There are a couple of birds like that (except these are reported to both be eagles), and a bald eagle, a fox, and some cats. (no, no cats were harmed)

I've seen these guys and it looks like a Red Shouldered hawk to me as well.

The cat comments though...what is the deal? Is it some of you guys just think it's macho to hate cats? That's really a pretty funny thing in a sheep-mentality kind of way. Lots of folks have cats they consider family members the same as dog owners do about their pets. I won't get into the "dogs are better than cats" debate as that is just childish. They are two very different animals, each with enormously attractive features. I love dogs too. I grew up with both as pets.

I'm going to get slammed for being overly sensitive to this ...maybe some of the really smart guys will tag me a cat-loving-liberal f**. Sweet. Whatever works for ya. All I'm saying is it's funny nobody jokes about someones black lab being carried off by a wolf or a bear as if that would be a great thing and it strikes me as a little odd. 🤔
