Badger...you sports, news or talk radio?

I do volunteer on-air shiftwork for a local mission-operated Christian radio station. News, weather, and voice tracks, the mix is mistly contemporary Christian on the FM side; and more traditional (read 'ole-time Southern') gospel, with late nite Russian language programming on AM. It's been a lot of fun... I hope to be able to do some local commercials, voice-overs and/or weather/news when I get to Arizona for a little fun and profit.

Unless you're locating in a very small market, get the best agent that will take you. Take the time to prepare the best air check possible. If you've only worked as a volunteer, you may have to begin as a volunteer in the new location also. Remember, the internet's ability to instantaneosly move voice files with high quality audio has eliminated a tremendous number of locally based voice-over opportunities.

I was the guy from 7pm to 1am on WPFR an AOR (do they still have those?) station in Terre Haute, Indiana

Nice to put a face on you Alaska. BTW, has anyone told you Arizona is a whole lot different from Alaska? Are you changing your ID to "Arizona_badger"?

AOR is pretty dead as a format. Credit that to Clear Channel, Legacy, ABC Disney, etc. Playlists are miniscule and programming is done centrally, irrespective of local tastes.

So many stations are just voice tracked automation with spot and news/weather cut-ins; and often the news, weather, etc. is tracked for several stations.

I'm looking for the proliferation of satellite services to join XM and Sirius. Once terrestrial stations cease to be such cash cows, and the stations are sold back to local interests, who will compete for the audience share, you'll start to hear entertaining radio again.

I hate engaging in these discussions because I get the urge to start shopping for a small/medium market fulltime AM.
