Just to stir the crap a bit....

DISCLAIMER - I think our president did a crappy job at the debate. I think Mitt beat him handily. I even think that even if Mitt didn't use notes (like this video suggests) he would have beaten Obama.

But, it is interesting if you look at the very beginning of this video, right as mitt walks up to his podium, it looks like he tosses a stack of notes on the podium. Very audacious.

I also don't know the rules on whether notes really are not allowed.

Actually I noticed he looked chafed under his nose (his upper lip). I figured he was sick. That's what's funny about all the Obama excuses. I suspect Romney was sick. It loked like a handkerchief to me. But Romney didn't seem sick so it was likely just from the BJ he gave the moderator before the debate and just in case of sepage.
