This is a closeup so that the detail of the finish is visible. Has a mottled, cigar leaf kind of appearance.

That is something on the lens. There are not any actual scratches or scrapes on the reel.

very nice.

i have two Shimano calcutta's that i bought about 10 years ago for about $70 a piece brand new. Cant do that anymore.....

Nice reel, I have two 250's one 400 and two 700's but they have scratches on them. the best all around reel made.
