This is a picture from opening day of dove and the early goose season in 2004.

We set up in dense fog on pea stubble before sunrise. When legal shooting time came around we started calling. Had a flock of about 25 Canada Geese come out of the fog about 10 yards high and fly right over us. We got 5 out of the first flock.

Ended the day with 15 geese and 45 doves.

GREAT PIC!! Nothing like a big flock of honkers to get your blood going. That picture reminds me of several years back on a foggy morning perched in a standing corn strip. Two cam in stacked to land in the deks, and i limited out with one shot. Boom.. both of them piled up and didnt flinch a feather. We could not stop laughing, because the day before, i could not hit the broad side of a barn. I love the picture!!!! True friends are forged in the field!

I wish there were more Canadian Geese hunters in Ohio. We are quite over populated.

I've never tried it, but I have heard that there is a great recipe for dove that uses some sort of Apple Cider baste. Someday maybe.

Weich... You have a goose hunter from ohio here!! Its funny you mentioned that. When they first opened up the early nusance season, we really found it difficult to get permissioin to hunt. When the numbers were not so high, people would tell us "awww they are soo pretty, i like to watch them" Now a few years later, people are begging us to come shoot them. They difficult part being that the overpopulation is in the rural areas, and people are still touchy about letting guys hunt on their property. We hunt the Knox county area(close to Mt. Vernon) most of the time. It sure feels like goose weather out there today.

This brings back some horrible memories of the 2 sportsman shows we just did. All we heard for 6 long days was vendors making those damn goose calls squeak. Goose, turkey, squirrel, and some stupid thing we never figured out what it was. It sounded like a baby screaming.

I guess out in the wilderness they wouldn't be so bad, but indoors and constant... it was enough to drive a sane person crazy. But then again, I wasn't sane to begin with.
