You assumption, perhaps, is that scientists are someone above being human, which is probably one of the stupidest assumptions that can be made.

There were lots of scientists in Nazi Germany who sighed on to the Eugenics movement, and lots of them who nodded their head to sterlizing and exterminationg people they considered "substandard."

And - contrary to popular belief - there were lots of scientists who sighed on to the fact that the world was flat because some ancient Greek scientists said so.

The study of science made our modern life style possible. And the scientific field is more honest and honorable than many others that come to mind. While the body of scientific knowledge is replete with errors, they are found and corrected as time goes on. Science does not create dogma – that is the realm of others.
