It does surprise me that the greatest of bands has such a limited following among the posters here.

Who says it is limited? I saw the dead live 41 times, and I'm sure that is a small number compared to others on the forum.
I think that it was great, but I am a low key head. Never was a fan of "deadheads", I actually used to go to the concerts for the music!
I was at the last concert in Chicago '95, was the worst concert I have ever seen. Jerry forgot lyrics in every song he attempted, the looks Phil was giving him could have killed.
It was time for it to end, and I was glad. I had pushed my luck many times, at many shows.
Gotta say that the current tours are a sad and pathetic cashin on sentimentality.
Terrible singing, mediocre playing, and wasted jerks (alcohol) everywhere. Like a big, dumb frat party.
Not what I remembered, just a lame exscuse fot a tour.
Now, Sept 13th, 1991, Richfield Colliseum was a good time, and if you have access to a tape of good quality, you'll hear what I mean.
I miss Jerry, more than I let anybody know.

Not trying to ruffle feathers. I too enjoy the crap of the dead, but I don't wear tie-dyes, drop acid, or drive a VW Bus (anymore).

What I meant was that I was surprised that their has been so little discussion about the band on these boards, or something like that.

All I really wanted to do was give some smokes away.

I saw them on their last tour...I thought the music was good (not great but Good) Warren Haynes is IMHO the only candidate to fill in for Jerry and he does a decent job of it. My only complaint was with the crowd

I have been to more than a few phish shows and love the scene, but this was more like a collection of burned out junkies looking for a cheap high. I saw people doing cocaine off a donut box! There was no energy, just a lot of really old really strung out people.

No feathers ruffled, Andy. I miss those days, for sure.
Gotta admit my life is waaaay better now, but hey, I was young, and it was a lot of great times.

Sorry, didn't mean to open a can of worms.Saw the Dead first time in 1979 but didn't really get it until an old girlfriend turned me on to them after Jerry was already gone.That was at Further Fest in 1996. Have been touring ever since. Have seen some great shows ( w/ Warren Haynes) as well as Phil and Friends and Ratdog. have seen some lousy shows too and some of the Heads piss me off at times w/ their foolishness.But stay close to sober people into the music.The Music never stops!!!
