regardless of the specific name all amazons will eat the same food.

i would start her off on kaytee fiesta, a well balanced mixture of misc seed and some dried fruit and no sunflower seeds. i would add a little kaytee rainbow which is a balanced pellet that has everything the bird needs for nourishment.

gradually you can reduce the amount of seed and increase the amount of pellets (cockateel size) and eventually you will not find moths flying around your house.

of course give the birds some small pieces of apple a grape or two, and a piece of banana. i have never seen an animal that doesn't like banana.

i give my birds a little raw trail mix as a treat almost every day. i also give them a small piece of bread or almost any salt free table scraps. everything in moderation.

please don't let you child put the bird and his face close together. if the bird gets spooked by some noise, he can bite and draw blood and your child will no longer trust the bird which had done nothing wrong except respond to it's instinct of self preservation.

most birds are put in a carrier and taken to a pet store for grooming. towel wrapped, flight clipping, and nails cut and the bird will soon hate the carrier.

try to learn how to clip the birds flights and the tip of it's nails when they get too sharp. the more you can get the bird to trust you to do that, the closer you will become to the bird.

if it is necessary to towel the bird to clip it's nails, learn to do it yourself and get some kwik stop in case you draw some blood cutting it's nails. their blood coagulates slowly and the kwik stop put on the tip of the nail is a help and it won't cause any pain.

if the bird starts to nip, blow in his face.

stay away from pet stores, they know very little. try to find a store that specializes in parrots only for advice or suggestions

We make our own seed mix from 50 lb bags, use roudybush, give my Amazon unshelled almonds and freash fruits and vegies. My wife makes a bird cornbread that contains eggshells, vegies and some special additives. All of our birds ask for when it's gone, LOL.

I have a Quaker and a Timneh Gray that really like each other. If they could breed I think they would, LOL.

What's entertaining is that they talk to each other in Human English! Sometimes they argue and sometimes they just make conversation, LOL.

That's pretty cool. My dad used to raise double yellow heads. We've got a flock of one kind of parrot or another living in the area (Tustin, CA). Usually just two or three go flying by, but one afternoon a whole herd of them came through. I lost count around 24, so I'd guess there were 30 of them altogether. They set up quite a racket when they're all squawking at once!
