But it was just some old bricks, a musket and a bowie knife on display.
The Riverwalk is a far better reason to visit San Antonio. Heck, El Mercado was a bette reason.
What's the name of that Mexican restaruant there with the mariachi band?

Mi Tierra is popular, close to the Mercado...

Riverwalk was A...MA...ZING, missed El Mercado, but I think the Alamo was the high point of our visit. Beautiful AND meaningful... the sense of history was overwhelming, to me. Don't know if my kids were struck the same way, but I had a hard time getting the 19 year old out of it. I splurged on a couple of the audio-tour speaker thingies, and my 10 year old girl was RAPT. I was soaking in every bit of atmosphere I could, and she even outlasted me! I think the biggest reason that people are disappointed is that they go there, surrounded by entertainment, and they expect to be entertained. You won't be. You have to go into it expecting an experience, not entertainment - THEN you won't be disappointed. Like Trish said on another thread - it's hard to describe the feeling you get when you realize that this is THE PLACE where history actually happened. Not a replica or a museum display...


I have a much better picture of this view - my kiddos improve the quality of any photo! LOL!

DaQueen, i love to go see the movie at the imax theater (i think its an imax) before the tour. Helps me realize what im looking at while walking thru.

Aaaah, I wish we had done that! I told the kiddos they could choose the audio tour speaker thingies or the movie... should've gone for broke (literally LOL!) and done both! I hope I get a chance to visit my brother down there again - I left with a longer list of "Things I HAVE to do/see" than I went in with! ("drive on the interstate" was NOT one of them. "find a way to avoid EVER driving on the interstate/state highway/strange hybrid roads" is list item #1!)

Last time there i rode up from corpus cristi but i got a room next to the interstate. I took a cob downtown. Didnt wanna ride around down there. Left the bile at the hotel.

Movie has patrick swayzes brother in in. Its only like an hour long but made me understand the history of what i see. Been there 3 times. Still need to do the mission tour. Have down riverwalk amd the boat tour. Ate in the needle a couple times. Loved that.

I think it may have been Mi Tierra? My memory tells me it was right at El Mercado (not in it).
I've only had Cabrito (cabrita?) a few times, and this was better than in Mexico City.

But this was a dozen years ago.
