Sadly the Army has been force to do the following...........

The following message details the Army’s decision:

Due to the current fiscal challenges, the Secretary of the Army has approved the suspension of Tuition Assistance (TA) effective 1700 EST Friday, 8 Mar 13. The suspension applies to all components and will remain effect until the fiscal situation matures.

Effective 1700 EST 8 Mar 13, Soldiers will no longer be permitted to submit new requests for Tuition Assistance through the GoArmyEd portal. Soldiers currently enrolled and participating in courses approved for tuition assistance are not affected and will be allowed to complete current course(s) enrollment.

Soldiers can continue to access their GI Bill benefits, if applicable (either the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) or the Post 9/11 GI Bill), or use another funding sources (i.e. grants, scholarships, or Army National Guard Soldiers using state Tuition Assistance). Soldiers should be encouraged to contact their local education centers for additional information. Updated information will also be posted to www.goarmyed.com.

I myself was using TA, while before I was deployed and continued for a bit during my deployment but had a very difficult time doing so while I was here so I stopped taking online college courses , but planned on resuming them in a few months once I returned.......... got some decisions to make here now.

Kerry Announces $250 Million in U.S. Aid for Egypt

[]Secretary of State John Kerry announced Sunday that the United States would provide $250 million in assistance to Egypt after Egypt’s president promised to move ahead with negotiations with the International Monetary Fund over economic reforms.

In a statement issued after his two-hour meeting with President Mohamed Morsi, Mr. Kerry said the aid decision reflected Egypt’s “extreme needs” and Mr. Morsi’s assurance that Egypt would reach an agreement with the I.M.F. after more than a year of talks over a $4.8 billion loan package.

The statement issued by Mr. Kerry noted that he and Mr. Morsi had discussed the need to ensure the fairness of Egypt’s coming elections, but it did not mention any specific political commitments the Egyptian president had made to receive the aid.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for April. Some opposition groups have said they will boycott the vote because of what they see as an effort by Mr. Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood movement to dominate Egyptian politics.

American officials say that Mr. Kerry asserted that moving ahead with difficult economic changes in Egypt would require a degree of political consensus and was implicitly a promise of some political change.

The aid announced Sunday consists of two parts. One is a $190 million infusion for Egypt’s budget intended to address what Mr. Kerry said was the country’s “extreme needs.” That assistance has already been approved by Congress.

Mr. Kerry also pledged $60 million for the creation of a fund to support small businesses, which will provide “direct support to key engines of democratic change in Egypt, including Egypt’s entrepreneurs and its young people.”

As an incentive for Mr. Morsi to conclude an agreement with the I.M.F., Mr. Kerry said that he would work with Congress to get additional funds approved for Egypt once a deal was reached.

In May 2011, President Obama pledged $1 billion to support Egypt’s democratic revolution. The $190 million in aid announced on Sunday is the first disbursement of that pledge.

“In all my meetings, I conveyed a simple but serious message: The brave Egyptians who stood vigil in Tahrir Square did not risk their lives to see that opportunity for a brighter future squandered,” Mr. Kerry said. “I encouraged President Morsi to implement the homegrown reforms that will help his country secure an I.M.F. agreement, put Egypt on the path to establishing a firm economic foundation and allow it to chart its own course. He agreed and said that he plans to move quickly to do so.”

The I.M.F. wants Egypt to carry out a number of economic policy changes, including raising taxes and cutting energy subsidies, and it is seeking assurances that Mr. Morsi can rally the political support needed for those changes.

Mr. Kerry’s departure from Cairo was briefly delayed, news agencies said, because hundreds of supporters of the soccer club Al Ahly, known as ultras, blocked the road to the airport in a protest related to a court case about a soccer riot in Port Said last year.

But the motorcade made it to the airport, and Mr. Kerry flew to Saudi Arabia, his seventh stop on his nine-nation trip.[/i]

This does sux. Especially when "we" want the highest quality/highest educated military in the world, and tie promotions to degrees. This is one of those long-term consequences smarter folks were warning about-the effect on the senior NCO corps and field grade and above officer corps 5-10 years from now?

What a load of crap. I served but not during war time. I think anyone who served during wartime should be entitled to FULL tuition assistance and reimbursement for all other course related material. I hate to be negative, but it's time for us to rise up and take this country back.

Sadly this sequestrian thing is even our kids as well, a lot of military personel have kids in DA schools, i.e. elementary, middle school. Teachers who teach our kids will be forced to take no paid days off, and some may end up being let go, all in order to make up for the budget shortfall.

First of all, if they want to find monies for tuition assistance which I find very important, the Government should cancel all military retirement income after just 20 years and activate them at 62 or 65 (preferably 72 due to longer lifespans) like the rest of us civilians who have to slave all of our lives for the pittance. Work 'til you can afford to stop- no free ride just so you can buy luxuries and take vacations. Secondly, forget about tuition and housing assistance until the VA hospitals are refurbished with modern equipment and higher paid, better trained staff. Thirdly STOP costly wars of foreign intervention that rebuild their economies while providing us with debt and maimed/killed Americans. F the Muslim Brotherhood. Finally, stop living in a fantasy and rebuild our infrastructure with business startups, vocational training for badly needed industries, and invest in America by giving the American small business community first crack at contracts even if it raises prices slightly. Without this, all is a pipe dream built on borrowed money and fantasies of what if.

its fricken sad they wont cut their fricken huge salerys but by god lets cut the men and womens education assistance what a joke oh you can fight and die for our country but we dont care that you dont make as much as us and we dont care that you need assistance.

I understand that you thinkit maybe too early to start receiving retirement right after retirement, but I believe we have earned that right for serving our country and the sacrifices we made during that time period.

And to explain why I called out the comment, I think I'd rather have my tax dollars spent with proven companies... granting a contract just because they're new is just like granting a minority or a woman a job because of they're race or gender.... let their work history speak for them... and yes, I'm a minority and worked hard for my status....nobody gave me a break .... 🤐

Maybe you can still sign up since it doesn't take effect until the 13th? Or is it that it takes forever for the superiors to approve? Sucks either way, it seems like they would be able to find more significant areas that are bleeding money, rather than an soldier education program that is obviously an investment.

Sounds like they looked at a sheet of paper with no description and a bunch of numbers and just started checking things to cut...with no thought on the repurcussions of choosing cuts based on politics rather than sound judgment.
