Here's what they look like so far.

At the rate they are growing, they will be “knee high by 4th of July” sometime mid June. No care other than potting soil, water, and sun.

My daughter loves to watch the progression from seeds to seedlings to sprouts to twigs like you see here. We are all looking forward to the full grown plants.

The tray is put in south facing bay window to get sunlight during the day then retired to their end table for the night (our cat likes to try to chew on the leaves so they might get misted with a "get away cat" squirt gun).

We have another 10 or so seedlings in the basement under some lights in a grow tent we set up for other seedlings in preparation for when the snow finally melts and we can get our garden gowing.

Where do you live that you need to start corn indoors ? Never seen such a thing.

I don’t need to start them indoors. We started them when the kids had a snow day little while back and I was trying to think of things we could do. We broke out some stuff and began to do some seedlings.

Herbs
Numi Corn
Peppers
Sunflowers

Ah, I see. Well I hope it transplants well.

Here in WNY they will be planting sweetcorn in a couple weeks. It's planted under poly sheets to protect from frost. When they take it off it stands a foot tall in a couple days. That way we have sweetcorn by the 4th of July.

We've got another Masshole here? Where abouts? I'm a transplant from Waltham, in Chicago now.

Transplanted from WI to MA back in '93. Currently reside in Gardner (Rt 2 about 1-1.5 hrs west of Boston).

That way the other 2 classes can get all they want, trust me I have plenty. I harvested over 100# last year from my patch.

I'm kinda familiar with it. My cousins used to have a lot of hockey games there. We used to help host a bike race in your neck of the woods too. The Round Quabin, started in Ware, circled the reservoir (as you probably guessed from the name) and the fastest of the fast would finish back in Ware IIRC in around 3.5 hours. A bit over 60 miles round trip through some absolutely brutal mountain roads.

In college I had some friends that did that but they used a bunch of fancy lighting (high pressure sodium and some other kinds). I'm not sure how well it would do under a dual florescent tube shop light.

How's your corn making out, Bucky? Mine broke ground a couple of days ago and seems to be doing well so far.

I put them outside too early and these specific ones didn’t survive the cold snap that we had a little while back. I had to replant and the new ones are about the size you see in the picture above but in containers outside.
