these are raised by a friend of mine. she will be happy to take a deposit of $2,000.00 with a balance due of $7,000.00 upon delivery of the next bird that hatches.

i haven't a clue what the breeding pair must have cost her.

Those were going for about 2,500 to $3,000 15 years ago! So I guess the price hasn't inflated too much!

i have never heard of any hyacinth going at that price unless it was a monte python bird. in some states, not california a blue and gold can go for $2500.00.

in ca, a decent hand fed baby blue and gold can be had in the $1,000.00 range. incidently there is a bird show the 20th of this month at the pomona fair grounds. i haven't been there as a dealer for many years, but i plan on going this sunday to help some friends sell their birds.

a major mitchel is closer to $25,000.00 and they are not good pets. they don't bond easily if at all. they are mostly bought by doctors, not bird doctors, and put in a show case sort of like an aquarium would be used.

they are beautiful, exotic to look at, but they intimidate me. watching them try to come at me through the cage wire was really something. i'm not used to seeing wild birds and that's the way they have to be to breed in captivity.

the girl lives in a town called norco, california, horse country. all the lots are hugh because you are abble to build stables and keep property on the grounds.

i saw youngsters going to the grocery store on horseback. all the streets have a horse trail running in front of the houses. pretty interesting town.

i have 2 clients who are building homes around their birds. current dude has one of these (a juvenile) that is the sweetest fella. i've been around long enough now that he recognises me, flies to where we're sitting/working and walks all over me - actually laid down on his back on my lap to be scatched...

if these are removed from their parents and hand feed, they seem to be very loving and docile. if the bird will come to you and lay in your lap to be pet, they have a great pet that will live 70 to 80 years. see if you can post a picture of the bird in contact with people.

yep, he's a hyacinth. his name's McLoud (his mom is named Hellen Wheels, btw)
the owner/breedeer is security sensitive and asked me not to post a pic - (he's been hit before, and i respect his insecurity)
sweet fella. seems to have taken to me rather well - i was greeted with a "claw up" meaning hey, come pick me up so i can mess with your beard, nuzzle and chew on your ear while you try to concentrate on his new home....

when a bird wants to come to you and particularly another person's bird, you are putting out exceptionally good vibes. you should be pleased with yourself.

My Blue & Gold Macaw, Pepper was his name, loved people, especially girls/ladies with blonde hair! He would just automatically go to a lady if you let him. I had him for about 5 years, and really wish I had kept him! Sold him 15 years ago!

i know how you feel. my blue and gold fell in love with women with long blond hair. anyone tht visited me that had hair like that, makita would sit on a perch near the woman and preen her hair.

when i went to pick her up, makita that is, to return her to her cage, she would draw blood from my hand, arm, or finger, whatever she could bite first.

last i heard several days ago she is still with the woman i gave her to and still spends her time preening the woman.

pity i don't have long blond or long, or blond or much of any hair.

We used to raise chickens. They weren't as pretty as these guys, or as much fun.

Charlie and Rick,, it's funny. I have an Amazon that is the same way with blond women. He picks them and any one else getting in the way is inviting themselves to a good BITE!. (He's been know to untie straps too,lol)

Had to pick Pepper up with a 18 inch piece of broomhandle to keep him from biting me, but once he was on the handle, he would scurry up my arm and sit on my shoulder and dance and be happy! That went on for about two years, until he quit biting me when I picked him up!
