is that possibly the reason that this forum is running out of steam? Everyone's 401K looking good so everyone is getting fat?

I'm bored here without the anger. Come on guys, let's get some anger going! Who got some? Don't make me read the trades forum. I crave entertainment.

can you tell I've been drinking?

Market is a bubble. Part of why real estate has bumped, rentals being bought right now.

My 401k is 5.56

rental market has made the company I work for (cabinet/countertop manufacturer/distributor) so busy I fear it may end up hurting us. But the residential market is heating up in a hurry too. At least in Massachusetts, but we are usually in front of the national trend.

So are things improving (for whatever reason)? I'm not doling out credit, just asking if it's time Americans dared to feel good again?

I'm desperate for entertainment.

Maybe if the numbers being reported were more honest people would believe them. Biggest problem to me is debt, dollar and DC.

We should all be thankful that we are not having to live like the Palestinians in the Gaza concentration camp for 46 years.

we probably never have nor ever will see honest numbers. but don't underestimate the power of "mood". Mood is definitely lifting...for whatever reasons. I don't give a crap why, but it is undeniable.

Though employment figures are lagging compared to other indicators. lots of head scratching. seems obvious why. Corps ain't hiring despite improving conditions. duh.

appears that there has been a shift in the management/labor power struggle due to the recent horrors. workers will do more for less if it means job security. management can make more under those conditions. may not change until demand outpaces ability to produce, but the bad economy will end up strengthening management's edge going forward.

simplistic observations, I know. I'll leave the complicated explanations to the brighter lights that reside here. Economy is not my long suit. Hope to not see lengthy boring c&p's, just personal experiences from other parts of the country.

There are two choices: prop up the ponzi scheme or prepare for austerity.

Frank, most of my friends and family in Europe are in dire straits and operating at about half their salaries (and pensions) these days. Their Governments are implementing (or raising) property, estate, and other "luxury" taxes in order to pay their bankers' usurious interest rates and to hell with the people. They've never seen anything like it. I suppose they see the glass as half-empty just like their bellies and wallets.

In this country, the half- full glass folks tend to be union folk, government paper shuffling wankers, double dipping pensioners, workers in niche industries that haven't been outsourced yet, or management trainees at Costco. The majority of us mainstream folks are struggling with household budgets.

The irony is that many American small businesse's former, primary sources of income are currently thriving thanks to the "endless" supply of Government greenbacks, early retirements and/or layoffs (Government & corporations), and foreign interventions/rebuilding but they have little disposable income for domestic vendor contracts. In our situation, the client base has quietly shifted to the small business sector. We are planning on transferring most of our focus to one of the few areas of potential- healthcare. An area which will benefit us personally along with other families whose children fit under the ever expansive developmental umbrella.

I hope we get to personally discuss further. Keep the faith, brother. There ARE alternatives on less traveled roads out there.
Those who stay on their current paths, as comfortable as they seem, are not going to fare as well I'm afraid.

The housing & construction bubble will burst as soon as the Fed quits dumping $40mil/month into it (propped up ponzi scheme). Nobody is hiring, and no one wants to spend their cash. Americans are now having to weigh-in for health coverage while illegal immigrants are given a free pass with benefits, cash, education, food, shelter, etc. American needs to start taking care of it's own, instead of trying to "police" the world and opening our doors to every idiot that wants to come here.

Austerity is coming. It's clear that's what the big "O" wants, and people voted for it.

It's going to get worse before it get better. Bring back the gold standard.
