I see no reason to be upbeat about the state of affairs right now. Sure the stock market is up, but as soon as the fake money runs out, bye bye. Interest rates are too low to make it worth your while so lets take a greater risk in stocks. Great if you want to gamble or maybe you hope to get bailed out again. I don't have the extra money to lose anymore.

Everytime you turn around they are trying to infringe on your rights not protect them. Then we have to try and normalize and give legitimacy to every freakazoid behavior out there. We keep lowering the bar for humanity, just look at what people watch on TV these days.

I suppose after doing my taxes and adding up every tax, user fee or whatever they want to call it and giving nearly 60% of my annual income to federal, state, county, town and other various government entities I should smile ?

I'm not buyin it, of course I don't watch the nightly news either, my mind doesn't get it's daily dose of programming.

jeepers, I asked for anger/entertainment and all I get is summer reruns. youse guys is stale. I could have read this stuff 3 years ago. I can only duck and cover for so long. Guess I'm stuck in my own thread, so...

I'm not in a niche industry, nor do we get government contracts. Our biz depends on confidence in the future. It was simplistic of me to lay all the credit on rental rehab and DMV in #19 was quick and correct to pounce on it. Rentals carried us across the bridge from the worst times in the economy and housing market, but as of about two years or so ago individual remodeling by owner occupied housing greatly picked up and have increased, new housing starts are picking up, developers are everywhere again (sure, they end up renting the units) but these are new construction and conversions of dead property like abandoned warehouses and mills from older cities, not just new carpets and paint in existing apartment buildings. Boston and surrounding areas are booming every night, people are actually bidding above asking price on city neighborhood condos.

We are in the process of completing a few large contracts and already have projects in the pipeline for the next year, both in moneyed neighborhoods (Chestnut Hill) and traditionally depressed areas (Haverhill area eg). Projects like the planned development of the old Boston Herald location are coming up behind the others. Not all will be rentals, many are planned condo developments.

I came into this thread with optimism and now I'm depressed. Think I'll go to my happy place...work!

You know why I watch restaurant/bar/store rescue shows? Because it gives me hope for humanity.
If I want the opposite feeling and a realization of what we're becoming, I'll peruse pawnshop/property flipper/storage-repo shows. That's just short of exploitation & capitalizing off misery IMHO.
