A good friend of mine is a local historian, and columnist for the local newspaper in Douglasville, GA.

She's recently found a photo confirming the fact there was a bridge that was over the railroad in town that ran between Atlanta and Birmingham. Surprisingly so, it seems no one even remembers it, much less when it was taken down.

She posted this photo confirming the bridge's existence, and I immediately noticed what looks to be a Jeep. But, it looks larger than the original Jeeps of the early 40's.

Any idea what kind of vehicle it might be?

Jeeps were not on American roads until after WWII, did they even have hard top jeeps then or all canvas, the car in the background appears to be late 20's-early 30's as they featured spares on the trunk and had square roof lines. However the older car could be just that in this photo, an older car.

Looks more like a modern jeep than an old one, Jeepsters were more streamlined on the roof line and this one also appears to have bullet headlights.

Yeah. I think the 1st one was built in 41 for the military. This appears to be a double photo posting, and the other thread didn't load the photo ?

Anyway, it seems some of the guys think it's a late 20's Ford.

Looks like an old car, it has fenders, the wheels are too close to the ends of the body, it has head light pods and it has a chrome/nickel radiator shroud.

Think you are right on the old car.

I would agree with those "guys." Probably a Ford Model T (or A?). The pic is grainy...I can see why someone would think it's a Jeep by the body lines (from that distance), but the wheelbase looks too long and it looks like the tires stick out from the rear of the body (no wheel well in the rear, just a fender).

I agree with the others. The rear axle is way too far back for a jeep.

At 1st glance I thought it might be a jeep, but just purely from the shape of the vehicle. But thought it to be too early and before they were made. Plus, the photo is hard to see. Upon closer inspection I could tell that it was not, and that's why I posted the thread. Just trying to help my friend with a possible time frame that the photo might have been taken. Due to many newspaper reports from Atlanta that she reads for tid-bits for story ideas about things from the past to supplement her history blog and possible one day books, she finds cool things about the history of my local county. Surprisingly so, no real hard info is available locally about the even existence of this bridge, much less when it was torn down. The local paper is over 100 years old, but all old copies belong to the history museum, and for whatever reason, those two ladies don't get along, and access to documents and old papers are regularly denied. A shame really ...

Interesting photo... I see there is another car facing this way, past the car in question in front of that building. And there is what looks like a truck on the road coming this way. And 2 or 3 other vehicles past that on the road.

There is a church past the bridge there. I bet some history on that church would turn up some history on that bridge.

Edit: at least it looks like a church with a steeple in the front over the door. That might be an optical illusion and just a chimney.

Looks like a 1926 Nash two-door sedan with solid rims.

Someone on her history blog said it was a 25 Dodge and the 26 Nash looks almost exactly the same. But, I'm going with BlueDude on this one.

The photo was taken on Broad Street. And from all things considered, the Court House was to the right of the photographer.

Looks like it was taken on a snowy day in Douglasville. But as far as I know, no Church's were ever on Broad. They were all one block back on ... Church Street.
