Not sure which area is under attack from the article, but North Kabul International Airport (aka NKAIA) was where I "hung my hat" as a contractor working for IJC last year. Could be what they are trying to attack, but any construction would be fairly far away. The insurgents (from various factions including main Taliban but a few others as well) have hit almost every base in the Kabul area over the past few years.

Waiting to hear from some friends, but most those I served with recently redeployed.

From the few pictures I've seen it looks like the scumbags never got close to breaching "the wire". General Salangi, Afghan police chief in Kabul, "gets it" and his guys respond pretty well to these kind of attacks. Well, for a 3rd world country that's rebuilding a professional police force....
