What have you had this year and what do you think?

Here is what I have had so far and my thoughts.

Bobs 47- usually among my top couple favorites but it is a little different this year. More generic/ less flavor. Still good not great.

Schlafly -another of my favorites. Usually neck and neck with Bobs 47. Better than bobs this year.

Mothers - first time I had it was last year. My first draw last year was underwhelming but it grew on me and became my go to. I think just because it was new to me. This year it is just ok.

Sam Adams - ok Sam haters here is some fuel. This is damn good this year and among my favorites if not my favorite.

Warsteiner - very good but reminds me of just a tweak of their normal brew.

Summit - meh. Pretty forgettable. Nothing but their porter has ever been much of interest to me. Edit sort of growing on me as I'm drinking it.

Left hand - very nice. Different than most. I still like San Adams smooth carmel taste better.

Paulaner - loved it last year this year not so much. Maybe I got a bad 6 pack but it was skunky and reminded me of heine in a bottle. Ick.

Weihstephaner - different than most. Had that subtle ester background flavor that I like in wheat beer but was sort of odd in this. I could see some loving this.

Leinenkugles - boring

Great Lakes - very nice. Only had it on tap and as a base in a sausage and kraut soup. One of my favorites but also new to me.

Crown valley - yuk. Roasted flavor not belonging in the style. Unrefined at that. Ick.

I'm forgetting a German one I drank last night that came in a single bottle. It was very good but I'm finding domestics are better. Maybe freshness and temp control enter in to that.

I love marzen style beer.

Gonna have to pick up some Sam Adams to supplement my stash of MGD's. Which Adams do you recommend?

Also, what do you think of Wild Goose (local DC area brewery)? Ever had it, ya braggart? It's pretty good.

Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest-Märzen

FOR THE WIN.......

I've been at the Oktoberfest many times, the Hacker tent is my fav...

But, damn near died once in 1983 or 1984 (or wanted to) - drank 5 "mass" (1 liter steins) in about 4 hours (it's pretty high alcohol beer for the Oktoberfest)

Alcohol poisoning beyond belief....it was such a brutal hangover, that I consider it the only hangover I've ever had in my life, because nothing else even comes close

(I was totally jet-lagged, and I'm sure that contributed significantly to the situation)

After puking, then dry-heaving pretty much non stop from midnight until 11am or so, my aunt comes into the room with a Weiss Bier, a pretzel, and pickled herring.

I looked at that and said no way.

She insisted.

I ate and drank.

I survived........barely.

Blood. The Sam Adams Octoberfest is among the best.

Ayinger is the single bottle I had last night. Spaten is in the fridge.

Try another six of the Paulaner. I'm most of the waythrough a case and nary a skunk among em. Have you ever tried a 50/50 Paulaner/Spaten Optimator. Try it. Very tasty.

When I was in alaska I had a wonderful porter that was really a blend of three of their brews rather than specifically brewed a porter. Denali brewing in talketna.
