Two 8 foot bull sharks were accidentally snagged on fishing nets less than 200 yards from swimmers in the river. One was dead, the other was very aggressive.
No recorded history of shark attacks in Maryland history YET.

interesting timing... I was telling the wife about a beach on the Potomac somehere that i used to find a bunch of shark teeth... they were fossilized tho... I can't remember how to get there anymore but I may have to try.... I remember parking along a little two lane road out in the middle of nowhere and walking thru da woods a mile or so... it might not be a good idea.. 😟

As kids, my friends dad had special clearences to Wallups Island in the "Forbidden Zone"....we would find fossilized sharks teeth...huge conch shells..all kinds of rare shells just about every 2-3 feet...it was unbelievable...(kind of like fishing in Quebec in the 1960's when you caught a fish on literally 8-9 casts out of every 10 casts)
Also, while on Wallups island .....charlie heston would ride a white horse up and down the beach w/ roddy mcdowell chasing him w\ scrolls.....
Fun times..

Wallops Island is now used for supplying the space station. Very cool considering they were going to shut the place down and board it up not 3 years ago. I've seen Charlie there several times. He was always mumbling something about hands off the dirty apes or something...

Sounds like the Calvert Cliffs area. Was there last spring. Very cool beach/park. It is a bit of a hike in, but well worth it. You can wade out into a foot of water and just sift sand through your hands and find shark teeth. Also got a few small, nearly perfect fossils of some sort of ancient critters.

How far up or down from Wash. D.C are you guys talking about...^^^^ for sharks teeth finds?
Is Waldorf in Maryland or Virginia?
I went tubing once on a tributary of the Potomac w/ two hot young (27-28) women....really fun day...I did not get "dualage" that evening...even though i tried....didnt happen, crap!

Bloody...what "beach on the Potomac" are you talking about...location location location...

LOL@Jonesie Ok, ok, these particular ones were found near Point Lookout in St. Mary's County but they've been found further inland.
Btw, I've also seen blue crabs by Fletcher's Boathouse (DC) which is past the location of the Exorcist in Georgetown.

LOL These are just supposed to be the tip of the iceberg, my friend... and don't forget the Frankenfish which the Vietnamese were kind enough to import to most of our DC waterways.

I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have my fancy, above ground Walmart pool.[-(

It is called pound net fishing, a technique by which fish are led into a maze of stationary nets where they are caught live & can be sorted more easily. Fishermen have been slowly switching to gill nets which are cheaper and don't require permits.

I was using the Exorcist/Georgetown as a reference point for the location of Fletcher's Boathouse which is just a little down river of Great Falls. Here a number of people have drowned due to the Potomac's deceptively strong undercurrents. Btw, everybody forgets that there are a series of canals that run "forever" parallel to the Potomac River on the Maryland side. Lots of huge carp and panfish in there.
