I've never hunted big game. I admire those that do though, especially for a harvesting/culling of the herd- for the deer's sake.

Do I drink the blood and dance naked wearing the fur after the kill?
What do I do with the intestines and the doodie? How do I make sausage?
So many questions.

Beautiful buck. Had you seen him before/on camera or did he just stumble into your sights? I have tremendous respect for bow hunters. Much different sport compared to rifle hunting.

That is/was a huge deer for our area and he was a bit of a fighter. He broke off one of the brow tines as well as the G3, I would love to get a chance to shoot at one of the others he has been fighting. But I am not going to complain at all! I am not going to do a whole head mount, but I am going to bring the skull somewhere after I clean it up a bit more and have the bugs finish off the cleaning for me and then just mount the skull and antlers, "Texas style".
And no it's not just a bow only area, he was just a smart deer to last this long. Most of the areas around me are filled with fuzzy animal lovers so you can't hunt there, but he came onto my clubs property so it was fair game.

After I gutted him in the woods I kept the heart to eat, respect thing. At least my buddy said I had to because he is my first Buck. And I cut out the inner loins yesterday to cook on the grill tonight, yumm! The rest of the deer is going to the butcher tonight to get processed, some steaks, stew meat, ground meat and sausage. The ground meat and sausage need to be mixed with some fat otherwise it is just to lean to cook properly. And I will be making a bunch of jerky with him as well, my son is already bugging me for some of that, I make a good jerky.

I never saw him on any of my cameras, but there are 3 deer that hang out in the field up the street from me on private property and I think this was one of the 3 beasts. And not the biggest one either! I would have felt very lucky to get the chance to see him in the woods while on stand never mind get a shot. It was a super lucky day for me in the woods, not so lucky for him.

And SD, Bambie was a male deer, he had antlers.

What bow and broadheads you use?

Expandables are illegal here in Oregon for large game.

I shoot a Mathews DXT at 70lbs and this is the first year that I used the expandables. They used to be illegal here as well, don't know why as they are so effective with the right bow. And I use the 100g Grim Reaper heads, they open up to a 2" diameter on impact and wow did they do a good job.

Yeah I think it's a ethical kill with how much quicker they bleed out an animal.
