You get dropped off in the mountains in Colorado, 75 miles from the nearest town. It's February, temps down to zero overnight and a high of fifteen degrees during the day each day. Two days will be sunny, the next you get six inches of snow. The weather cycle continues endlessly.

Your dressed for the weather, and you can take along all the clothes that you can carry.

You've got nothing but the following with you:

100 waterproof matches

25 protein bars

3 gallons of water

5 cigars

1 knife

1 playboy magazine from 1988

Assuming nobody is going to find you, how long would you be able to survive?

on a side note...

When I was in my 20 and early 30s me , my bro and couple of friends would backpack through the mountains for a week every spring. Usually in Arkansas but once in Colorado. The time we went to Colorado it snowed big time. It was a bit dicey...

Then you should alter the question to have 5 PREMIUM cigars, a cutter, and a forty count box of grape White Owls.

Now that would separate the men from the boys . . . .

I could easily walk 11 miles a day, even in the cold. If it took me a week to get to civilization, I'd be fine. I'm guessing it would only take me 4 or 5 days in deep snow.

Depending on where in CO and depth of snow, 3 weeks to a month. But by that time you should be able to find/build ample shelter and sustain. 11 Miles a day!?!? Deep powder is a bitch to walk in without snow shoes. The knife & water are the key items. Takes a lot of effort to melt snow. Protein bars serve as bait. Tightly rolled Playboy serves as a tinder bundle. In spring & fall months cigar smoke will keep away bugs, and also serve as firestarter (especially if DE's).

Wouldn't want to be stuck in that situation. Each truck carries a survival kit. My wife has already been stuck because a Mtn Pass closed. Ask HockeyDad how his trip was today? He only had to cross 1 mtn Pass.

Assuming you know, "nobody is going to find you" you need to walk out, outer wise I'd try to find a clearing to lay out an SOS and build a large smoky fire.

To walk out you would need to find the nearest stream and start walking downstream, eventually you should find civilization. Try to remember what Les Stround did.

Not postholing in deep snow. If the snow is deep enough you'd be lucky to make it 1-2 miles a day. They had a situation like this on "Dude, youre screwed" on discovery, a survival expert had a seriously tough time with this scenario. But hey we're all tough guys here, right? [sarcasm]

Valid point. You'd think I could tell east from west without a compass, but sadly I suck at it.

If I am only 75 miles from civilization would a signal fire be useful? With 100 matches I could probably burn down the whole wilderness.
