Reunited with the boys at the Cabin in the N GA Mountains. Good times around the camp fire. Cigars. Excellent meals. Good country music. Threw out 300 lbs of corn for the deer. Salt block too. We feed them every time we come up. The herd is growing. Saw nine the other night. 4 fawns in the bunch. Cleared out a 1/2 acre & planted a small food plot. The rain is starting now. That's good. The very heavy & constant rains from last year stopped all pollination & he had no acorns at all over most of N GA.
Then we got word that the Chief Judge of Fannin County was killed when someone crossed the yellow line & struck him head-on while he was riding his Harley. His wife was seriously injured. It happened right down the road from the cabin. We heard the sirens.
Then, we learned that 35 year veteran of the Atlanta traffic reporting scene, 23 years spent with WSB, my neighbor who lived around the corner from me, the very beloved Capt. Herb died assisting a bad car wreck that happened in the neighborhood. He had a massive heart attack & died on the spot. All of Atlanta is in mourning right now.
I learned this morning that Barry from Moss Pawn & Gun, and the wildly popular youtube channel IraqVeteran8888, or IV8888 passed away this weekend. I met him a few times when my good friends bought a pump shotgun & my other bud bought a .270 from him. Things are speculative right now, and I hate to consider this, but he was arrested recently for DUI & that is a felony & fellons aren't allowed to own guns. I can only hope it wasn't suicide.
Packing up from the cabin & about to winterize it. It's getting down to 27 tomorrow night. It was a gorgeous weekend up here. My best friend bought an additional 20 acres to add onto the family compound. They'll be pushing 80 total acres. Not bad. His plot will be the nicest. Gorgeous rolling hills, beautiful draws & the highest point in the compound with stunning 300 degree views if the mountains of TN, NC & GA. Can't wait until they start building there next year.
Lots of emotions leaving here today. Always glad to be up here in the woods. Really hating the sad news we encountered this weekend.
