This is a must read, that describes the french playing on all sides. The below is about their concentration camps- which spared no one.

As early as 1939, the existing camps were indiscriminately filled with German anti-Nazis (Communists, German Jews, etc.) or pro-Nazi Germans or also Nazi prisoners of war. Following the 1940 defeat, and the 10 July 1940 vote of full powers installing the Vichy regime, these camps were filled with Jews, first with foreign Jews, then indifferently with foreign and French Jews. The Vichy government would progressively hand them up to the Gestapo, and they would all transit by Drancy internment camp, the last stop before concentration camps in the Third Reich and in Eastern Europe and the extermination camps.

Beside Jews, Germans and Austrians were immediately rounded-up in camps, as well as Spanish refugees, who were later deported. 5,000 Spaniards thus died in Mauthausen concentration camp.[8] The French colonial soldiers were interned by the Germans on French territory, instead of being deported.[8]

What the hell has happened to security for our pols? I don't care Dem or Repub, we have seen too many nut jobs getting too close for comfort lately. Recall the psycho who was doing The Macarena behind our current president during a speech. I suppose in that case security were all out front keeping a sharp eye out for Tea Party members.

(very true) The side of my mother's family (Barcelona) that fought with the commies against the fascists fled to France where they were interned in camps. Some stayed, others returned to face the ire of the Generalissimo. Generations of my father's family were already mostly over here from Sevilla, and disparate parts of Italy/Portugal. Distant remnants of his clan fought with Franco & killed Communists and their allies (including misguided and meddling Americans) for fun. Some from both sides of the civil war reunited & volunteered for la Division Azul to help Hitler against Stalin. Many were killed or returned maimed.

Ahhhh, the good times. I come from violent stock. No wonder I wanna raise hell once in a while... then the feeling quickly goes away on my stratalounger.8-[

Shoe-tossing woman is a major whack job. Previously tried to get a judge to release the Colorado theater massacre shooter into her custody. You know, because they have a mind control thing going on between them. And stuff.

On the other hand, I suppose there are so many nut bags out there now that doing security at a large event is like playing Whack-A-Mole.[frypan]

Gotta agree here. I don't care whether it's a Dem or Rep. If it's a president or upper level politician in the US, someone should be shot before they can complete any sudden movements.

I think our Secret Service has been spending too much time with brazilian hookers over the past couple president's.

isk isk isk...shoe tossing is an under-appreciated form of political expression & should be taught in both civics and gym classes.
Least our intended monster targets can do is sit still not dodge like cowards. They owe us THAT much.

You know what I like about this place?
At some point some disgruntled botl will spend countless hours searching for incriminating evidence and inevitably label you a fascist, commie, nazi sympathizer for all to see. =d>

I had a suspicion that I might be giving you the wrong impression.

I am not one of those who boycotted french fries. I like the french, give them lots of business.

You are right that the world has forgiven them- not indebted to them for anything.

Yes they are better known for fermented delicacies than loyalty and valor.

It all started when someone mentioned French Cone of Protection- which is as hilarious as relying on an accordion for protection.

S, I was more laughing at myself. I started thinking about everything I enjoyed that was French and it all circled back to alcohol! Actually I always find your interplay with HD interesting and entertaining.

I think of them more for mimes, berets, and small breasts. Although, cheeses and meats are good too. The wine?, California has passed France in all areas of wine making.

We'd pass them for food too, except they're not required by any one to make their products safe for consumption. ie, pasteurization

No one would consider it remotely prejudice if we laughed at Muslim bacon or their sommelier skills. It is then only fair to laugh at the french 'stand your ground' claims. But unlike the poor Bedouins, who would never dream to claim proficiency in their weaknesses, I find the french are quite delusional when it comes to theirs.

(sommelier) pronounced 'some liar'. {in a Mel Brooks movie anyway}

Garçon works too, if sommelier is difficult for you to pronounce.

I find that very interesting and heartwarming about America. We obviously were open-minded enough to accept and surpass something they like. You think they would ever bother improving coke or cheddar. They are the discriminating ones. They turn their nose up at Sangria

Gryph you are being overly gracious, and you should never change. However, enough history has been established since to show that the French NEVER do something that isnt somehow in their financial interest...with no regard to loyalty or morals.
