Chick was a great announcer and gave so much to the sport (I do not care for basketball as you may know) and the main thing about Chick, HE WAS NO HOMER...he called it like he saw it and he was a great voice for the Lakers and NBA! Chick is an institution! God Bless........Charlie

Announcers like Chick Hearn don't come along very often ... he's been the voice of the Lakers since they moved to LA in 1960 and along the way has coined phrases and terms such as 'slam-dunk' and 'airball' that're now used by everyone ... to say he'll be missed is a huge understatement.

Chicks passing and that of Jack Buck combined with the imminent retirement of Ernie Harwell will leave us so very few of the truly great sports announcers ... and it just won't be the same without 'em.
