rick, are the ports on the feeder that large or did you pull off the "flowers"? and if you did, do the hummers prefer to feed that way?

no, they fly that close to me. i have had them sit on my fingers and eat. sometimes they will come as close to my face as the end of my cigar.

i know they recognize me because when we were in the hummingbird display at the san diego zoo, the attendant sat next to us she warned me not to swat my hands if i heard a buzzing close to my head and the birds flew around and near her.
