Z... Assuming we are talking about a cake of similar size/construction etc, then no. They are a cake provider, nothing more.

Cake could be used to murder infants in a satanic ritual and it would still just be a bad tasting stack of stale bread with fondant.

It's all hogwash.

The law won't encourage discrimination of any sort.
Redneck bakers already discourage the gays by calling them names until they leave.
Which is stupid, since there is probably a lot of money in ****** shaped cakes.

But with or without the law, doesn't a person who is comfortable with himself have anything better to do than force someone to bake or serve a food item if they don't want to?

People have their panties bunched in a knot because this is the protected LGBTxyz crowd.
What about the ugly people who get overlooked for jobs? You don't see many fat women with facial hair hostessing at your local Capital Grill.

And don't get me going on the Polish or Eye-talians.

I think the shop owner is an idiot. But I think forcing him to do it is worse.

There were alot of posts so i only read the first like three. As a hoosier, I'm dissapointed in this law. As a (hypothetical) business owner, I should be able to refuse service to whoever the **** I want for whatever **** reason I want (without a law saying so). I should also be able to have a smoking establishment where I want, including bars and restaurants. The Government should be involvdd in the least amount of my life as possible. Believe me, I work for them!

Ps i really hope gencon does not boycott indy. I love gencon.

Interesting read/arguments.

Having read the majority of the thread, I still kind of need clif notes on WTF the law does??

If it says a business can discriminate on the basis of sexual preference... I disagree with it. And before any Judeo-Christian folks tell me it's against their religion, I'd like to refer you to the teachings of Jesus.

Jesus regularly ate dinner with thieves and whores. And I'm pretty sure He said something like; "But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect" (Matthew 5:43-48).

For non-believers... what dog do you have in the fight, then? Why do you care who bakes cakes for the LGBT community?

The better argument would be for muslims to say we can't serve them because the koran says we gotta kill 'em!

Paul I disagree I don't see this having anything to do with $ I think it's more about maintaining momentum and not conceding ANY ground socially (how the Pink Mafia sees it).

I've always been confused why people think homosexuality is a "choice". To be so sure that they are "choosing" to be gay, you must have some inside knowledge that I don't have. I mean, I didn't "choose" to be attracted to women. I just am. Are you "choosing" to be attracted to women TCBY? Is that why you're always so angry?

As for a homosexual gene... they've had some success in fruitflies (no pun intended).

And I'm really curious where you draw the line on what the difference is between "preferring" to screw someone of the same sex and being sexually attracted to someone of the same sex. That seems like the dumbest differentiation without any distinction ever identified. It's meaningless to try to peg it as a "preference" as opposed to sexual attraction.

So where do you draw the line? At what point does a business get to discriminate against customers AND/OR employment based on"free will". Can you not hire someone for their race? Can you not serve someone for their race? Can you not hire someone because they're christian? Can you not serve someone because they're christian?

Laws are in place to protect from the "tyranny of the majority" and while you may like to pretend you're in the minority, and some poor put-upon white male... you aren't. These laws are in place to ensure that a person can live in a community. If all the business owners in some small town in Indiana decided not to sell to gay people, you essentially run a person out of town by making it impossible for them to purchase goods or services in the area. Sure, a florist is a stupid shop, and not a "need". But what if all the grocery stores refused to sell to "the gays"?

Lots of states with bad laws on the books ( think gun control etc ) and some folks ARE finding it necessary to move to a different state where they can live as they see fit. That's the beauty of the U.S. we have 57...er I mean 50 states to choose from.....find one that your happy with
