Absolutely no doubt about that. He torched the field in the Belmont.

Turcott just held on for the ride. That horse was amazing

He may have held on for the ride but he had some balls. Too many jockeys wouldn't have let that horse loose like he did.

Watch the video of his run at the Preakness ...

He BLASTED his way to first place coming from 10 lengths back out of turn one. His burst of speed out of turn two on the backstretch was amazing.

I've never seen anything like it.

YouTube 1973 Preakness.

Wow !!!

He blasted the record that day too but there was a malfunction on the timer so they never officially credited him with the right time..
Another thing,, after he died they autopsied him and found his heart was almost twice the size of a normal horse..

When he had run the same distance in the Belmont that he had earlier in the Kentucky Derby, he had beaten his own time in the Derby, which is still a record more than 40 years later. He increased his speed every quarter and probably could have easily run another 1/4 or 1/2 a mile. He beat the previous record in the Belmont by something like 2 3/5 seconds. Usually horse racing records are beaten by something like 1/5 of a second or so. No horse that ever lived, icluding MOW or Citation would have beaten him that day in the Belmont. I watched it on TV in 1973 and I could have sworn that Secretariat turned to Sham when they were neck and neck with a look that said siomething like, "Are you kidding me?" and then he took off. The closest horse to him was 31 lengths in back. You can live and hope, but you'll never see the likes of this again.

I had heard today that Secretariat would have beaten American Pharaoh by 15 lengths based on both horses winning times in the Belmont Stakes.....pretty impressive.

It's amazing how the roids enlarged his heart and made him really fast. Why don't they roid em up anymore?

I read the same thing about being able to beat AP by 15 lengths, but their time was only 2.65 seconds apart. Not sure the 15 lengths claim is true ...

1 second in horse racing actually equals 5 lengths....I know it seems like a lot but it is indeed the case. Amazing animals.
