Just three weeks have passed since the OP and somehow it doesn't sound nearly as far-fetched as it did way back when.

BTW, what is this 'loyalty pledge' silliness'? Does Trump have be blindfolded, get on his hands and knees in his skivvies and get paddled in order to be ALLOWED to pledge loyalty to the party? And even if he does, who thinks he wouldn't run as an independent anyway?

At least with those two running maybe people could chose a cantidate to vote for instead of who to vote against .
