Nope, not ecactly... Reagan started the "Just Say No Drugs" campaign while selling crack cocaine in the US to fund an illegal war (with the Clintons and Olli involved). All while cutting spending on mental illness research. It doesn't matter that Reagan was mentally incompetent to make a decision himself. Olli has his own talk show, and the Clintons are trying to take the WH again. That alone should tell you enough.

With the current Iranian regime fresh off if attracting our sovereign soil and taking hostages for a year or two.

Now it's improper to talk to folks we don't like.

That is black helicopter stuff and I am no Clinton fan.
If you believe that Reagan/Clinton started selling crack cocaine for wars, you are a fool and I am calling you out.
I suppose you also believe that Reagan introduced AIDS in inner cities to rid the cities of the black population?
The mental illness decision was made to cut back and release more mentally ill inmates because of what the psychiatric doctors were telling Reagan needed to be happening.
They since later recanted and said they made a big error in judgement on the releasing mental patients earlier than they should have.
This, of course, was after the lie by the media that Reagan released mental patients and closed mental institutions.

Reagan was the best President in the last 100 years, possibly the top 3, or top 5 presidents in history.

Reagan is my favorite president but your spin is a bit much. The doctors told him then they recanted? Thus someone else is responsible for his decisions? And of course money had nothing to do with anything. Reagan would throw the BS flag on that. He took responsibility for his actions.

He is the best prez in my lifetime but not without fault or mistakes. He was a huge deficits spender. Yes it's gotten worse in real numbers but he was the king of deficit at the time. Folks tend to ignore that and say ya but look at so and so after him.

His dealings with Iran go contrary to what the ant-Obama crowd squawks about. Now Iran is our sworn enemy forever. You can't even talk to them. Any deal with them is bad whether we've actually seen it or not even if the rest the world supports it. Reagan sold the very same regime missiles. I liked it. It was ballsy and that's why I liked Reagan. It's also why I see the hypocracy in some folks attitude today.

The mental health thing was a mistake. You have to put it in the context of the time though. Part of the context was ballooning deficits and budget priority swing towards defense spending to defeat the evil empire combined with a terrible economy.

The Reagan administration was also slow to respond to the AIDS epidemic. It wasn't anti gay or vindictive or even ill intended. They simply missed the ball and didn't see the future or how fast it was moving in the present. It was a mistake. Every admin has them. Brownie didn't use the hurricane machine he was just slow and inept at responding. And he equate to the admin. Meh. **** happens. It wasn't intentional and truly the inept government machine was a big part of the problem. But fault lies ultimately at the feet of the captain fair or not.

I love Reagan. He did more good then bad and we should be so lucky to have a repeat. But he did make mistakes and he typically owned them. It's one of the things that set him apart. Some doctors were not Predident. He was. There was no census from doctors saying he should do what he did and then recanting. Maybe his advisors or a specific association or two but there were equal voices or probably more against it. It's politics. He made a decision garnered his chits to the point he could implement it and owns it. You win some you lose some. I don't get the concept of defending every action your guy does or did or attacking the other guy for doing the same. It's not reality and makes it a disingenuous game. Which it is lol.

Reagan couldn't win the primary today. He's too liberal. He'd be called a RINO by the wing of the party that ironically are relatively new to the party and labeling the old guard as not repoblicans. Lol. And they beleive it. It's like Caitlin telling women they are women in name only.

Reagan would sweep the primary today.
How would he be considered "too liberal?" No conservative have or would ever call Reagan a RINO. I am on that Tea Party side and everyone points to Reagan as the model. Sure he made mistakes (and by the way, I didn't ''blame'' the decision to release mental patients on advising doctors, I mentioned that to show that he had advisors that he relied on to make his decision. Of course it was his to make and I wasn't trying to excuse it, sorry if I wasn't clear on that point.)
He of course had to spend and spend a lot on the military. What president wouldn't have after what Carter had done with the military and also the decision to ramp up the arms race in order to topple Russia during the cold war?
Don't forget these RINOS in office now, McCain, McConnel and many others were there when Reagan swept in and hated him then. The RINOs are the ones that derailed his plans to abolish the Education Department.

Reagan would be able today to talk about conservative principles and policies and talk directly to the people and he would run away with the nomination TODAY.
Reagan fought against the establishment Republicans in his day, saying that we needed to take back the party and change it from within. The same thing that needs to be done today.

RINO? I have never heard any conservative say that Reagan was too liberal or would be called a RINO today. That statement is laughable.

They are not calling him a RINO. I didn't say that. They praise him but act differently. He would never win the primary today. He could never pass the immigration litmus test alone. If he worked with Tip he would be considered worse than Boener etc.

It's not that any of the tea party people are calling Reagan a RINO. Their memories are just intentionally convenient. No way he'd emerge in the party today. He held strong to his convictions but recognized to govern you have to compromise. That's unacceptable today.

As for the mental health issue I was just going off what you wrote, maybe it wasn't what you meant.
