A friend showed us some of this "homework"...damn is it jacked up past common sense.

Someone is laughing all the way to the bank and if a teacher cannot teach basic Math, Writing or English in this day and age then fire them immediately without all this jibberish. Little Johnnie and Jane need to pay attention to the work and parents need to follow up on the instruction. All this new nonsense does is muddy up the water and cause confusion.

well, at least it's not like 'No Child Left Behind' or somethin as crazy as that... 😟

I've looked at some common core math stuff. I actually like it because I could see how it would get kids brains thinking more algebraically at an early age thus promoting better advanced math capabilities later in life.

I might be a bit biased on this issue though, I would love to see more kids coming out of school with solid algebra skills... because I need people with good algebra skills.

I see a comment about the teacher not being able to do basic math, English, etc. Actually it is more of a serious issue with the curriculum. My sister-in-law just retired from the OKC school system. She is given a book to teach from. She is not allowed to deviate from what is in the book. Most teachers read word for word from the book. What a teacher teaches and how they teach is not in the hands of most teachers anymore. It is driven by the system and the teacher...nor the parents, have any control over it any more.

Going one step further, we have a lot of good potential teachers entering the system and when their hands are so tied about what and how to teach, I can understand why many of them get discouraged and lose interest or leave. In many cases...it is not the teacher, but the system.
