Because it's politically incorrect to be against women's rights, gender/sexual orientation rights and anti Christianity. By defending muslims, who are clearly against these issues, they can hate by proxy.

Now, not all lefties feel this way, some are sincere, but they have become the convenient fools for those that do. In the end, if this support succeeds in getting muslims embedded in government and society, they will be rewarded in the worst way.

"Some of the comments that have been uttered about Islam do not reflect the sentiments of my government or the sentiments of most Americans. Islam, as practiced by the vast majority of people, is a peaceful religion, a religion that respects others. Ours is a country based upon tolerance and we welcome people of all faiths in America."

"Islam is a vibrant faith. Millions of our fellow citizens are Muslim. We respect the faith. We honor its traditions. Our enemy does not. Our enemy doesn't follow the great traditions of Islam. They've hijacked a great religion."

"Islam is a faith that brings comfort to people. It inspires them to lead lives based on honesty, and justice, and compassion."

"All Americans must recognize that the face of terror is not the true faith -- face of Islam. Islam is a faith that brings comfort to a billion people around the world. It's a faith that has made brothers and sisters of every race. It's a faith based upon love, not hate."

"According to Muslim teachings, God first revealed His word in the Holy Qur'an to the prophet, Muhammad, during the month of Ramadan. That word has guided billions of believers across the centuries, and those believers built a culture of learning and literature and science. All the world continues to benefit from this faith and its achievements."

"The Islam that we know is a faith devoted to the worship of one God, as revealed through The Holy Qur'an. It teaches the value and the importance of charity, mercy, and peace."

I think it originated with a simple misunderstanding. A few lefties thought that Trump wanted to ban inport of 'muslin'. Now, we all know full well that no self-respecting leftie, hippie, flightie, etc...would be caught dead without muslin shirts, skirts, etc. And domestic muslin just doesn't feel quite the same. So, of course! Who in their right mind would want muslin banned??????? Once they realized their mistake, it was just a little too late to just sheepishly admit it and 'move on'.

"And I'm not a student of religion, but I don't find anything in what the principal teachings of Islam that put us in contradiction at all. In fact, the principles are the same as what—we have a diverse religious culture. But it's kindness, it's be good to your neighbor, it's love, and it's take care of children. It's all these things that—so there's no anti-Islam."

"And I think we've gone out of our way to make clear that our argument was not with the people of Iraq but with this dictator, you see. And I think that's helped a little bit. We've tried to be sensitive to the culture, tried to understand and empathize with the religious persuasions of these people. But there's nothing in Islam that condones the kind of brutality that we've seen from Saddam Hussein. So when he was posturing as a man of religion, it caused unease even from some of his supporters. And I think that's a reason that the Arab world hasn't exploded."

Don't forget about misogyny.

Left hates misogynists, yet muslims are the most misogynistic group of people in the world.

I know TW doubts this, but most of the muslims in this world practice misogyny through clitoral mutilation, public stonings and only count women's worth as half that of a man.

Ya, I've often wondered this same thing.

"As the guardians of Mecca and the protectors of your faith, you rightfully exert a strong moral influence in the world of Islam, and the people of the United States are proud of their leadership role among the democratic nations."

"On the occasion of the special feast days concluding Ramadan, Mrs. and I wish to extend our warmest greetings to all Americans of the Islamic Faith. For nearly two hundred years, our nation has derived its strength from the diversity of its people and of their beliefs. That strength has been greatly enhanced by your own religious heritage. I am sure that the completion of your month of fasting will bring home to you more than ever the importance of religious responsibilities in daily life. Fellow citizens of all faiths join you in this sentiment. We will be with you in spirit as you reaffirm your commitment to principles which exalt man's existence. May your celebration and the special message of these holy days fortify and uplift each of you and add to our vitality as a nation."

"The countries which have sponsored and built this Islamic Center have for centuries contributed to the building of civilization. With their traditions of learning and rich culture, the countries of Islam have added much to the advancement of mankind. [...] Civilization owes to the Islamic world some of its most important tools and achievements. From fundamental discoveries in medicine to the highest planes of astronomy, the Muslim genius has added much to the culture of all peoples. That genius has been a wellspring of science, commerce and the arts, and has provided for all of us many lessons in courage and in hospitality."

"And I should like to assure you, my Islamic friends, that under the American Constitution, under American tradition, and in American hearts, this Center, this place of worship, is just as welcome as could be a similar edifice of any other religion. Indeed, America would fight with her whole strength for your right to have here your own church and worship according to your own conscience. This concept is indeed a part of America, and without that concept we would be something else than what we are. [...] As I stand beneath these graceful arches, surrounded on every side by friends from far and near, I am convinced that our common goals are both right and promising. Faithful to the demands of justice and of brotherhood, each working according to the lights of his own conscience, our world must advance along the paths of peace."

I think Obama was a self righteous POS and we are at war with radical Islam. I sort of get why he didn't want to say that but it's too ivory towerish to me. We are at war with radical Islam. We are not at war with Islam. The terrorists want us to be at war with Islam but we are not. The only way they can win is if we choose to do so.

It's in their name. Terror. They are outgunned so the must scare us in to action. It's their only chance.

I have no issue with trumps use of radical islamic terrorists or his desire to exterminate them.

Unfortunately fear drives many people to think things they normally wouldn't. Terrorists know this.
