Subject: Brooks Army Medical Center
Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio,Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers that have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the
States, especially burn victims. They have buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base but as you
can imagine, they are almost completely filled most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.
The question I have is why does Alec Baldwin, Madonna, Sean Penn and other Hollywood types make front page news with their anti-everything America crap and this doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the base newspaper in San Antonio?

AMEN!!!! Because people like Denzel don't need to draw attention to themselves, a lot of entertainers do a great deal of charity work and stuff like this, but don't want all the hubabaloo that goes a long with it. They don't do it for publicity, they do it because they want to do it, it comes from the heart, not some sort of personal agenda. I'm not saying big huge celebrity events that bring in millions of dollars for charities aren't good, but the "celebrity" aspect of such events are the main focus NOT the charity/generosity themselves, but with things like Denzel did - the generosity wasn't some huge celebrity event where the who's who of tinsel town was there, it was just him and his family showing their respect and pride in the troops which is an awesome thing. thank you for posting this.

That was a class move. Just look at him in the picture, no body guards, cameras, limos. No big photo shoot with the press. Just a classy effort from a classy guy.

The story has been slightly altered, but he did make an extremely generous contribution:

Because the news feeds on NEGATIVE DRAMA. How many times have you seen a great or awesome event be published in the paper? Drama sells papers! The public likes to read about other peoples problems and not the good.

Enough said.

Denzel is one of the few Hollywood Stars that is a really true standup guy and not some whiny little backstabber! He is also a big time cigar smoker, and one of the best actors in the business!
Anybody seen super get even flick, "Man on Fire" with Denzel? Great movie!

the author of the article did take poetic license with his article, but, as you say, the point is still the same. denzel washington reached for his wallet.
