John McCain has been diagnosed with brain cancer. This truly breaks my heart given my history with this horrible disease. McCain was the only candidate at any level that I gave money to (pre Palin). I hope he makes a full recovery. 🌫

this shouldn't happen to people who have already suffered greatly in life.

I really didn't get his "Maverick" "beat to a different drum" campaign, especially when Republicans needed solidarity the most at that time. Nonetheless he is an American Statesman and to hear anyone who has served in political office suffering in this manner is sad.

Hope he has a speedy and full recovery. Politics aside, you have to admire the man for his service to our country, his efforts for his constituents and his dedication to public service.

Yeah I admire him for having served, but any other person without being a legacy like him would have gotten washed out of flight for the crap he did.

His Dad made it different than it would have been for any of us.

Ditto.....I think he's a decent man and a great example of an old school Republican. Puts Country before party. I also think he has made some breathtakingly bad choices politically. Palin being the obvious choice. She sank his Presidential chances for all time.

Al, when you get people killed by incompetence I have zero tolerance. And any time his service is mentioned I will. Some people do judge their side of the isle.

Thanks, Jamie. I didn't know the story behind the Liberty, only that McCain's father was an Admiral. A quick bit of research shows he was not responsible for the attack, but he knew the truth about the Israelis and used his position to cover it up...the attack happened in '67 and Israel was our biggest ally in the Middle East...I don't remember that there was much controversy in the papers then...the big news was about race riots and the civil rights movement...I've got some reading to do...

My question (s) is: do we judge a son by the faults of his father, and conversely, do we elevate a son because his father is highly regarded?

If the story about the Liberty being attacked by Israel to blame Egypt in order to drive the US efforts in the ME more towards Israel, then shouldn't the bulk of the outrage be directed at Israel, and not at the son of the father who played no part, except to cover it up?
