Some years ago, "Traveler" (the name of the USC horse) died a natural death and was replaced by the then Traveler in-waiting ... as it happened, Stanford was the opponent in the new Travelers first game ... at half time of that game the Stanford band (which is decidedly NOT a conventional marching band) "honored" the recently deceased Traveler during their performance ... after cattering to "spell" out something on the field, it was seen that they had spelled out the word "ALPO" ... last I knew, USC had yet to forgive Stanford for the incident, despite more than an intervening decade ...
