On 9/11 My now Wife and I had taken the day off from work and were putting together the final touches for our wedding which was on 9/16.. We were made aware of the first plane as my wifes work instituted an emergency call tree and then turned on the news just minutes before the second plane struck.

Like many others disbelief, shock, and sadness over came us... it was several hours later that we made the realization that our Honeymoon was scheduled for... NYC. We decided almost immediately that we would go forward with that plan because we would not let the terrorists win and we knew that supporting those NYC business would help even just a little in a time that most would avoid the city. We drove up from Md and sat in traffic for almost 3 hours because of the increased security to get through the tunnel. Every car, every trunk, every vehicle of any kind was being scrutinized and searched. at one point many folks were outside of cars with the local radio station playing on the radios and people were chatting and some were even dancing to lighten the tension and mood as we all waited to get through the line. Some were sharing bottled water as many were unprepared for the wait and It was great reminder that we as a people always tend to make the best of the very worst.

We went on to have a great time but it was still very solemn. Dust/Ash was everywhere. lots of have you seen me posters all over the place. Interestingly very few were for people... the majority were for pets. We limited our movements to the Time square/Broadway area as we had tickets to a show. All the "stars" were pulled and it was all understudies for the shows and everyone of them offered refunds but we went any way. The show was packed...

We have since been to all of the memorials EXCEPT the one in NYC for which we have had plans to visit multiple times and unfortunately have needed to cancel each time for various reasons so we need to get to it this year. We visited the Flight 93 Memorial back in April and recomend all visit.
