Very good point, I tend to agree with this but, in playing devil's advocate.

The young man in the photo has had professional training with such weapons.

The everyday young man (citizen) in the US does not get said training.

Does this make a difference?

Very true indeed. In civilian life two years from 19 to 21 there is not much difference at all in general or even with the growth in wisdom. I was lucky enough at a young age to have training in gun safety and laws but most do not get such training. Also at a young age I had the ability to take it very seriously and I feel a lot now a days don't have that either. Well some do but for the most part I feel they don't. I am pretty sure that the older generation during my younger years thought the same of me but then again they did trust me with a weapon at the very young age of 13 so who knows. Granted I was not allowed to keep the weapon in my room or have access to it at any time without an adult but I was allowed to hunt with the adults using my own weapon. My son same thing applied he had is own to hunt with when we went hunting but again not allowed access on his own. My son is now 22 and has his own weapons but again not allowed access in my home. Once he gets his own place whole different story lol.

Umm, also there is a reason that our military goes after ones so young. We see the recruiters at the high schools and such and it is more than just the value of youth,vigor, strength etc. It has to do more with psychological aspects of a child vs an adult. Which I do think it sux that our gubment plays on that. It is a bad argument in my mind because it is basically comparing in what I would consider two evils. Our gubment is willing to play on the non mental capabilities of a child for protection but not willing to give them the right to be adults elsewhere. Then again not having that capability as a child it should not be given on either side of the fence.

The thing is though in the service one has no choice ,I think, but to grow up very fast especially during war time vs civilian to where a 30 year old is still got the mentality of a 15 year old.

Just my opinion

Well put, Ewok. My sister did 4 years in the Marine Corps. Currently she is finishing her masters degree at Portland State. But she is only 26 years old. The Corp turned her from a decent student to a driven individual. She saw action in Afghanistan, still has problems with it, but deals with those issues appropriately. I would give that girl my last gun in a firefight, any time. I have never seen such accuracy before.

I will, she never really knows what to say in return to such things, and I continue to tell her, you did a job no one else in our town could. For that alone, we are eternally grateful.
