Anyone can take a genuine box and fill it with fakes. A genuine box does not guarantee genuine cigars.

Smoking one is the only way to assure authenticity.

what donutboy2000 said...

I've got a box of Cohiba Espl.. purchased from a vendor in Canada in 2001?? these were authentic boxed and coded... but the filler on the cigar was short cuts, scraps from the floors after the rollers cleaned up.. even the bands are a match and the tripple caps although some lose were in place... when I opened the box they smelled like moldy grass hay.. first give away... but the deffinet kicker was out of 6 I tried to smoke... everyone of them were hard drawing, plugged with no draw at all and all short filled from 3/4" to 1 1/2" You'll know once you smoke a few of these?? especially if their plugged.. I got so pissed off I cut one open and revield the short filler, horse hair, wood splinters etc.. found inside.. I took a picture and posted this along time ago? I don't have the picture any longer (computer crash) but I've still got these cigars.. I have even smoked a couple more since I used a poker to open them up for the draw...

Hard to tell and looks like it might be ok except for one thing. There is a old post that I'll try to dig up explaining the codes and how they are used. I don't remember the exact time they switched to the new system, but suppossedly it was done in alphabetical order, meaning the 2 letters they use in front of the six numbers for the first boxes would have started with AA and then AB, so on and so fourth. If that the case, then the D's would not have been started to be used till just recently. Sorry if thats confusing, but I'll try to find it since it explains it a little better than I am now.

What exactly is that a box of? It looks like it might be Part. 898 varnished and if so, the stamps would not be directly on the box. The Varnished box comes packaged in a cardboard box which is where they stamp with the codes. Doesn't mean it couldn't have been a mistake but its usually the way they do it.
