I’ve been exploring Black Label Trading/Black Works Studio cigars over the last 6 months or so. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all that I’ve tried until tonight. My first Bishop’s Blend in corona gorda that I just finished was terrible. Funky flavor, ridiculously awful burn. Just an overall terrible cigar, even after 5 months in the humidor.

The reason why I am apologizing is because this was the last of s fiver I had purchased. The other 4 cigars were sent out in trades/bombs. My apologies to all who received them.

Lesson learned for me: Don’t send out what I haven’t smoked.

Sorry, gents.

Matt,
It's possible that the one you just smoked was a bad one, and the ones you sent out where fine. Just a thought.

If a cigar doesn't burn right, it's gonna taste pretty crappy regardless of the quality of the tobacco.
I wish the opposite were true.

And every now and then ya gets unlucky, and ya hit a patch (box, bundle, 10-pack) of inconsistent cigars, like I did with my box of well rested Genesis Habanos.........maddening!
I've mentioned them before, but it's just so weird...
1/3 good............I'd bid $4 to $5
1/3 average yard gar............not worth $2
1/3 horrible................fertilizer

I've been studying them carefully ahead of time, before I light one up, to see if I can guess how a particular one is going to turn out..........no luck.

I appreciate the thoughts, fellas. I totally get how a funky burn could screw up taste. It was violently canoeing (not a gradual, uneven burn that goes bad... more like 3/4 of the wrapper’s circumference just suddenly stops burning, leaving almost a square cut-out of ash). When it wasn’t canoeing, it divided it’s time between tunneling and just plain going out. Flavor was so crappy, I thought I’d accidentally smoked into the band or something. At the premium price these go for plus the other amazing stuff coming from them, I had higher expectations. Stored at 65/65 until smoked. Didn’t muff the initial light.

I still think I’m going to start following my new rule. I shouldn’t be sending out something that I haven’t passed blessing on.

^^Yes. 2-3 years ago, I picked up a couple bundles of well aged NC Bolivar corona gordas at auction for about $1 ea. Half of them are plugged and taste like chit. The other half draw fine, and are actually rich, smooth and extremely tasty. The good ones are very, very good, while the bad ones are horrendously bad.

Good rule. I on the other hand am impatient, and try everything OTT. I never have a new shipment that sits for more then a couple days before I've tried one of everything.

My theory is, if it's not good ROTT, it's not worthy of taking up space.

Matt, good lesson learned but you don't have to apologize. After all, you didn't make the cigars and you sent them out in good faith. I have the same vitola, smoked one after a couple of months but didn't have nearly as bad of an experience as you. A little bit of wonky burn but nothing too serious. At the time I thought that it had potential so letting the rest of my 5er nap. They've been sitting for close to a year so when I ash the next one up, will report back.

Problem for me is, I prefer my Habanos younger. If they have too much age on them, I'm not a big fan because they loose their strength quickly. I kinda treat them like Connecticuts and smoke them quickly.

Matt, hold on for a sec. You RAOK'd me two BWS smokes: a Boondock and a Santa Muerte so musta been some other "victim."

That reminds me, I never did go back and post up what you sent (...now that you've publicly admitted to it...). Need to do that. 🤦
