I have had a mole problem ever since i moved into my new house. One day i see this mole pushing up the dirt so I took a pitch fork and stabbed it to death. When I dug the mole up I lett my rat terrior smell it. Over the next few days I began to find dead moles throughout my back yard. I love this dog.

My dog is a terrier mix and I USED to have a problem with field mice coming into the house, but not since I got the dog.

My nextdoor neighbor has a German short-hair of some kind or another. Biggest (and last) mistake our gopher ever did was wandering into thier backyard. Buddy thought it was the coolest toy he ever saw.

No good with those animals, he did however kill some rabbits at the old house. Good Luck

Short of getting a pet, anybody know what works on moles/shrews?
They've infested the underside of my shed & I've introduced poisoned food pellets but that hasn't slowed them down.

BTW, Thom, I too had a major problem w/field mice when we first moved in. I set mousetraps & was killing two at a time sometimes.

May have to resort to same for the moles under the shed.

The moles are looking for lawn larvae and bugs like crickets and grubs, earthworms, and other pests that take residence in your grass and it's roots. It may only take one or 2 moles to completely trash your yard. It'll look like little humps of dirt popping up everywhere, and you may never ever see the little ****. They live in their tunnels and they love it when you water your lawn.

Best way to get rid of them is do away with the food source and they will migrate to your neighbor's yard. You can set mole traps if you want, or poison. But that's dangerous to pets and kids.

Here is a link I found to be most informative. Home depot and Lowes carry a wide variety of pest control products and if it gets too serious....

call in the pros.

I'm with herfsnipe.. they are there because you have a bug problem in your yard.. usually grubs in my part of the world.. dont waste your time trying to get rid of the moles.. get rid of their food source and they will leave.. Diazinon or Dursban (sp?) are insecticides that come to mind. They can be applied with a fertilizer spreader.. read the cautions about pets/children, etc for possible exposure issues.. may not be for your situation..

I have plenty of squirrels that like to raid my pecan trees, send him on over. Come to think of it I could use my mole "heard" thinned out too!

Try putting spearmint gum in the holes. I know it sounds stupid but it worked for my mole problem. It is something about the spearmint that the moles can't digest and the problem goes away.
