Has anyone else been looking out for this? This comet is so bright you can see it with the naked eye in the Northern Hemisphere. If you have a cheap pair of binoculars you'll really get an amazing view! The last time this comet was visible from earth was around the year 4000 B.C. It's going to pass through the orbit of Mars and only be about 67 million miles away from Earth. They say with the lower pollution in the atmosphere because of the pandemic it's really bright. If you live out away from a big city where it gets really dark you should be able to spot it easily. Enjoy the show, it's a once in a lifetime moment!

We'll also get a "Super Moon" tomorrow night. It will be at it's closest point to earth in it's orbit (perigee) all year and appear huge in the night sky! If you have good weather it should be a good night to enjoy a smoke and the night sky!

.

I wonder if it's in Stellarium, the sky simulator software. I'll bet it is. If so, you can just plug in your location, any date/time you want, and Stellarium will show you exactly where in the sky it'll be, then and there.

I've done it before with lots other other objects. Punch your location and current date/time into Stellarium, ask it where the object is, and go outside and look that-a-way (preferably with binoculars or a telescope). Bingo, there it is, every time.

I'll fire it up later and look. By the way, go get the software, it's free and it's pretty awesome.

There's even a "portable" version that makes no changes outside its own directory, no install needed. Nice and clean. If you want to get rid of it, you just delete its directory, and that's it, which is awesomely easy and simple.

I love "portable" software for its "everything in one directory" isolation and simplicity, and how it doesn't screw up my system with any changes.

maybe first pedigree/blue ribbon sight

this could be worth risking a citation for unauthorized discretionary travel to an unpolluted viewing area...

It's not making a One Night Only! special appearance, it's a comet! It's visible now if you know where to look.
