Wife and BIL both in the house with me. Wife had dry cough, nothing else. BIL was on a flight from PI to LAX with Chinese people back in January. Over half the people show no symptoms, right? Pretty possible.

I had a week and a half back in late Feb, early Mar when going to the gym where my lungs just could not keep up with my regular workouts. Shortness of breath and dry cough. I likely had it then, which would explain why I did not get it when I shared the office with the 2 that did get it in the jail. *shrug*

Obviously we're both speculating and the only way to be sure is for me to get the antibody test. I just think the odds favor me having had it.

Only 3 people... so tough to get a good handle on something that may be 50%....

We're just speculating at that point.

My takeaway... and the reason I find this virus actually worrisome is not the mortality rate. It's the lung scarring.

Even if you take into account the 50% (rough number, may be bigger/smaller) that don't notice it... you still have greater than 1 in 100 chance of permanent lung scarring. I don't want that sh#t. Death is fine. Lung scarring is something you have to live with. I've read some people's accounts of how hard it is to breathe afterwards... and whether they may be able to recover to exercise properly again.

Victor that’s the flip side. You may have and there could be zero symptoms. That’s the scary part yet some grab on to that as a minimizing factor.

As an aside there are correct ways to calculate such things and incorrect. They are that way for a reason and have been for a very long time. But it’s really not worth arguing with someone who thinks they’ve got it figured out better than folks that have worked on these things for more than a week or two and the experts by definition are fear mongers from a certain party not to be trusted.

I get what you're saying.

I don't know the methodologies for getting a "good enough" number on this stuff.... But I do know when a number is a complete false representation of something. And it's fun to call people stupid when they do that.

Funny.
The liberals always cry "do it for the children".
Well, now the children are unaffected but they're closing their schools and sports and life.
This is a bunch of boomers trying to save themselves and their elderly parents.

Which is fine.
If it didn't mean destroying the future of our young to do it.

Selfish pricks.

Forgetting the numbers which have established and accepted ways for use recognizing and shining a light on the flaws.....

No one working with real people getting treatment thinks this is anything like the flu in terms of contagious or damage done. Yet some persist in minimizing it. Politics is like a lobotomy at times.

I understand the concerns. Everyone I know coming back to work seems to say it was either a bad case of the flu or a mild case, or just a cough and shortness of breath. There's one guy who just lost his sense of smell (and hasn't recovered it yet).

Small sample size, fuh sho... but none seem to have any lung scarring. And what about the 50% who show no signs or symptoms and are no worse for wear? *shrug*

Again... we're not going to know WTF for at least a year or so. Probably take that long to get real, good data.

Out of curiosity... did the guys you work with actually test positive? Or did an outbreak occur and they decided they were symptomatic and should stay home?

Anyone who called in sick with covid-like symptoms got tested. If the test was positive they were out for at least 2 weeks and couldn't return until they were symptom free for 3 days.

If they tested negative they could return to work when symptom free for 3 days.

Transportation got hammered. They all share a briefing room where they sit and BS when not transporting people to and from court, so that makes sense. 2 Sgt's and 20 or so deps.

The rest of the deps work housing units where 2-3 people share a small control room. The Sgt's share 2 offices (housing or intake) but work stations are shared all around. 4 teams of 30 deps and 3 Sgt's 24/7. In closed buildings connected by hallways. With central heat/air.

I’d be surprised if the folks on vents get away completely unscathed. The certainly didn’t have the flu. But I get it. I’m not arguing. Just stay safe. Be careful not fearful is maybe a better way to put it.

My sister has flown throughout this whole time. Nearly every day. I’m amazed she hasn’t had it. It’s like the chick that is careless and never gets preggo vs the chick that gets knocked up if you look at her.

victor809 wrote:

Absolutely. I think department wide (mostly my facility) we had just under 100 test positive. Inmates were higher, but they all share everything... and more of them have been tested.

Edit: not show positive or not show a single symptom and continue to go to work? Because if you show no symptoms, you don't get tested...

Interestingly enough... street deputies who are out and about interacting with the public? I think we had 2. It's those of us locked up inside the building who got the rona.

I'd go with the former...

My post wasn't dircted at you, personally, Tee.

I was saying what I thought should have been done. Inform the public, make recommendations, and let people be free to choose what to do for themselves.

I agree. The general public has always been known for it's deep thinking and good decision making. I say bet it all on Black and let's get this world population back down under 5 Billion! Old people? Who needs em! (besides this forum that is)
