I have an approx. 10 year old dome style humidor that is starting to dry out cigars. I have changed out the hygrometer and the new one is reading within proper humidity. Suggestions on next steps to re-charge the humidor or could it possibly be losing its shelf life?

Do the dollar bill test all the way around to check your seal.

Does it have a glass top? If so, check that as well for “leaks”.

After that, get a good cooler, some Bovedas, and some beads.

If it has a good seal then it should be good to go. What RH% are you trying to keep your cigars? I've always found that a full humidor will stabilize and maintain RH better than a partially full humidor. I've also found that beads are the best source of RH for humidors. Also keep it in a cool place out of sunlight.

KoC has some good ideas as well. 🌫

1. Wipe down the entire interior with distilled water using a clean cloth. Word of advice: do NOT use a cloth that you just washed in your laundry. You want something that has never had soap on it. A good option is those blue shop towels that are sold at hardware and auto parts stores.

2. F*ck beads. This is just my own opinion based on my own experience.

3. If the humidor has a glass dome top, get some clear silicone sealant and run a bead all around the top of the glass top *while it is closed*. Be careful not to get any sealant on the inside of the humidor.

What everyone else said, plus, get the big 320 gram boveda packs, you can recharge them BTW. I use a combo of beads and bovedas to good effect, just have to recharge the packs every so often. We run AC pretty much 365 days a year it seems, so ambient is around 50%, so I expect losses and just make sure to have enough buffer to replace what's lost via leak/trying to find that cigar I wanted.

Also after wiping down wait 24 hours and repeat the wipe down.
