On April 8th, 1974, 6 year old JadeRose was sitting in Atlanta Fulton County Municipal Stadium with the husband of his Mom's first cousin. He didn't really understand the significance of what he was seeing but he was sure as hell excited when he heard the crack of the bat and then the explosion of fireworks and the pandemonium. People were running on the field and the place went crazy.

I was there. RIP Henry "Hank" Aaron. You'll always be the home run king to me.

amazing baseball player and an even better man...

an all-time great who managed to survive the indignities of racism in the first half of his career, then the indignities of being hated for breaking Babe's "unbreakable" record...all with a quiet confidence and zero public displays of resentment...Aaron, at 6' and 180lbs, would be considered a little guy by today's standards...I'd take him over Bonds

promoted to a front office role and did so successfully when blacks were not viewed as having the "necessities"

RIP Mr. Aaron

one of my earliest and favorite baseball heroes.

The Boston Braves had left town for Milwaukee not too long after my birth but I was a fan of the game by the age of 6 (1959) and knew of the team's connection to Boston.

Henry Aaron, Eddie Matthews, Warren Spahn were my first National League favorites.

Not just a slugger, Aaron was an excellent outfielder, strong arm, above average base runner (stole more than a few bases early on) and hit for average as well most years.

But it was that quiet dignity that I found appealing.

RIP Mr. Aaron.

Wish my first baseball game was that cool. I only remember my first game because it was back when streaking was popular....

Hank Aaron had a beautiful swing. Ofcourse... you had to watch it in slow motion to see it.

Here's number 715 called by Vin Scully.

Another one of my favorite & all time great baseball players gone. I was lucky enough to see him play through out his career at Ebbets Field, The Polo Grounds & then Shea Stadium.

RIP Hammering Hank!

He briefly played in my hometown of Eau Claire, WI back in the 50's with the Eau Claire Bears (a lower level farm team for the Boston and Chicago Cubs major league teams). In the early 90's they put up a bronze statue of him in front of the Carson Park baseball stadium.

Watched many local high school teams, Babe Ruth teams and the amateur baseball team the Cavaliers play at Carson Park as I grew up. Old timers were sure to let the little ones know that Eau Claire was the place that launched Aaron's career.
