As a little kid, I remember highlight reels of the KC Chiefs. A wide receiver named Otis Taylor was fast and cool. A defender had a cool, tough name (Buck Buchanan). And in the middle of it was a guy named Willie Lanier.

Cherry red helmets. Arrowhead Stadium was being or was recently built. The whole thing was cool.

Family led me to become a Packer fan. I reconnected with the Chiefs in 1987. Not sure why.

I rarely follow anything NFL until the championship games. When I come upon the Chiefs playing, I’ll watch until the second set of commercials breaks the game and my interest up.

If they changed their name, I’d pay less attention until I had none. Not because the Let’s Separate Us Until There Is No Us has “won”. It is for the loss of another reminder of joy I once had as a child. Was once a Chiefs fan.
