Today I'm enjoying a Tom Collins made with Jaisalmer gin from India and fresh-squeezed lemon juice.

Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin:

http://jaisalmergin.com

Silver Medal Highly Recommended 93 Pointst's the first Indian craft gin from Radico Khaitan - the folks behind Rampur whisky! Jaisalmer is named after the eponymous city, and the tipple pays homage to imperial age of Maharajas and Maharanis. It's produced using copper pot stills at dustillery based in the foothills of the Himalayas. 11 botanicals are used to create the gin, seven of which come from India, including coriander and vetiver, orange and lemon peel, cubeb pepper berries, lemongrass and Darjeeling green tea leaves. This gin looks like it would be a fabulous start for any exotic cocktail.Clear color. Aromas of sprouts on rye, fresh parsley, and dill with a silky, vibrant, dry-yet-fruity light body and a warming, engaging, medium-length mustard seed, juniper, clove, and peppercorns finish. A distinctive and savory gin that will be fun for cocktail play

I've had their beer made from the local waters,Old Monk, tasted like the carrion filled water it was made from.I'll pass distilled or not............just too many foul memories to even consider it.

I hear you, how about Chemist, Hendricks Lunar or 47 Monkies?

regular Hendricks is my favorite of all. Slice of cucumber is much better than lime due to the cucumber essence in the gin.
Seems a sin to me to mix Hendricks though, maybe just a drip of vermouth, shaken on ice and strained.
Definitely not an olives gin.

Blue Sapphire martinis are also fine, with a twist of lemon they are superb.

another option if London Dry style isn't your thing would be Old Tom style, Haymans (sp?) is a great cheap-ish example of this sweeter style.
Very good with tonic water or even on the rocks.

Fantastic. This whole thing started when my neighbor had me try some Hendrick's Lunar, I agree, it's sipping gin. It's like a flavor explosion. I have yet to try their regular gin, it's on my list. I have read that Hendricks standard has more cucumber flavor than the Lunar version. At the same time my neighbor says Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin is even better. I have a bottle, but haven't tried it yet.

I used to think the same thing, like vodka, but there is a lot of variation in the botanicals used to flavor gin.

OTOH, I am dubious of actual differences in most vodkas. My wife insists Grey Goose is better than others. I plan on a blind test with Grey Goose, some Skull vodka, the black skull bottle, made from agave, and some good old Everclear.

I experience in your face to subtle nuance's in bourbon............gin I can taste differences one from the other but not enough to seek the high dolla stuff,Tanqueray has always worked for me.The only vodka I keep on hand is Sobieski..............its the only vodka I have tried that had some unique qualities even as subtle as they are.Occasionally in the summer months I have a vodka tonic instead of a gin & tonic

Scrapeface Classic from New Zeland in a gin and tonic with Fever-Tree Indian Tonic. The FT tonic is a bit sweet for me, I prefer the sweetness level of Schweppes or Canada Dry.

I find Gin to be one of the more diverse flavor spreads among brands.

It's all about the botanicals, man.

Blind taste Hendricks, Aviation and Plymouth side by side and you will 98.2% be able to tell the difference.

I used to drink gin martinis a lot, but got sidetracked by a ten year affair with tequila a while back.

Been to a liquor store lately? Check out the flavored vodkas and whiskies, e.g., Fireball whiskey, Peach flavored whiskies, not to mentions whiskey finished in used wine/liquor barrels.

Bluecoat Barrel Finished American Dry Gin

This gin is finished in oak barrels so it has an amber color and different taste.

Great in a gin and tonic.

Tasting notes
Appearance / Color
Surprising for any Gin, this one is light amber.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
Cedarwood and butterscotch on the nose with an unmissable juniper aroma.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate features sweet vanilla, earthy herbs, zesty orange and juniper.

Finish
Smooth and spicy formal finish.

2 different ones, Hendricks & The Botanist. Both great gins in martinis or with tonic.
