Cold day.

Sat on the couch for a bit but had to get out. Went and knocked out the grocery list that was on the fridge only to find out when I got home my wife had already gone shopping and didn't throw out the old list. So now we have duplicates.

Sous vide some chicken breasts to shred and fry up some flautas for dinner. I'll be shocked if wife or boy eat them, but they love the frozen taquitos from Aldis. But you know... I made em so they're nasty crap. I tried making homemade bratwurst a while back since they both like brats and I had a bunch of frozen pork butt and brisket trimmings to burn up. Picked up a seasoning pack and some casings and stuffed a dozen or so brats. But they wouldn't eat them. Wife said "I don't like it" without even trying it so I had to eat them all. Tasted like brats. The sausage, not the family.

Yeah... all that is a big nope. I'll let that opportunity die on the vine.

Man, I look at some of the temps some of youse guys endure and hafta think “70 F (…but feels like 65…) is nuthin’!”

My only “complaint” is the almost straight two days of rain. At least I can still wear shorts and t-shirt (…no tank top with temps at 70 or below…) and not bundle up just to stay warm…in the house!

So I skimmed a lot of this 7 page thread and concluded a large percentage of it is about football and what we throw together for the games... This post is going to turn more into a personal blog than anything, no offense taken if you with to skip to the next post...

....So it all started Saturday night when the wife went out of town to shop and was staying over night. I had the house to myself..err, and my 15 year old daughters... I ended up at the glorious H-E-B (IYKYK) to get some supplies for tomorrow's BBQ. My daughter wanted some pork for some reason. Well, baby back's always sound good... specially if my pit is gonna be hot. So I'm browsing through the babybacks and end up getting distracted and grabbed 2 packs of "ribs" and some other things. When I get home, I start whipping up a marinade for these "ribs" and everything is coming together perfectly. I get the marinade in the perfect pan and grab the "ribs" from the frige. Upon immidiate inspection I realize what I just opened is not ribs, but Pork Brisket Strips. I have never seen such a cut. Oh well, I can make a prize winning beef brisket so why not! I drop it in the marinade and put it all in the fridge. Anyway, later that evening I had an old friend come by and we enjoyed a Monte that came in the recent Cohiba & Monte humidor combo...(remember, I'm restarting my collection so I don't have much yet) It could benefit from a long rest, but it still satisfied. Well, those smoked well with some Basil Haydens.... then some Buffalo Trace... then something else he had.

Then came game day and I was abruptly reminded I'm not 23 years old anymore and alcohol has a painful detox at my age. So I shook it off, opened a Lone Star Light and lit the pit. Turned the marinade to a sop while the pit warmed up and threw the briskets on. Stuffed some jalepenos with cream cheese, beef fajita, garlic and wrapped in bacon. Dropped a few links of sausage and some fajita meat on the pit and we're cooking! Buddies come over and all is right in the world. We're watching football! The NFC game, asside from McCaffrey's single good run, was a pitiful waste of time, but the AFC game was awesome! The pork brisket, btw, was affectionately described by myself as "meat gum" and I'll never make that again. Flavor was awesome tho, so I cut it all into chunks for beans. If you're still reading; I warned ya. 😛

Never even heard of pork brisket.

I can find picanha steak/roast at H-E-B which is yummy. Never seen it before except in Brazilian steakhouses.

I strung them along for a bit on the negotiation stage to see where they were going on the compensation package and responsibilities but each time they added a little of this a little of that on the responsibilities. Not trying to be an a-hole but when the job description and responsibilities shift with the wind even before accepting the position, imagine what would happen if I lock in. It doesn't seem like a well defined and stable situation.

Finally sent them an e-mail today saying thanks but no thanks.

I was dealing with this when I and another nurse setup a pilot study for the creation of a new position. Once we got the green light for the pilot to be staffed entirely by volunteers taking overtime, we got it going and collected data. Wrote out job responsibilities and documented the time spent doing each thing vs downtime etc. Presented it to the suits at the end of the pilot and they green lit it pretty quickly.

But then 6 months went by and I heard nothing from anyone. Setup another meeting and they'd revised the duties to include things way outside the scope of that position. Some of the things, sure. But several others really need to be physician driven or case management tracking to put on the physician radar. Outside the scope of practice for nursing and opening up a lot of personal liability for whomever took that position. My original proposal was backed by all the management of critical care areas. The revision was not so then it got shelved.

Currently it's getting brought up again, but now they're not soliciting my input. I'm sure some suit is going to claim it as their own idea if it succeeds, but come back to me if it fails. Curious to see what their final draft is and whether or not it's even remotely close to what I was trying to do.

Was chilly today. Then some jackwagaon sent to me the current temperature of Jacksonville FL. (83 degrees).

Unsure who sent it.

This January has been the 3rd warmest on record for CT. The mild winter is scheduled to come to abrupt stall Friday night when we go below 0.

It seems this has been the coldest winter I can remember in the desert. Temps have only gotten down to freezing a few nights but the days have been 10 degrees below normals for much of Dec & Jan. We are sending a little more cold weather eastward today after which the days should get back to 70's. Spring is just around the corner.

-5 wc-15.

Winds will vary this morning bottoming out and no colder than -30.

Projected high of 6.

Being proactive with a heating pad to get ahead of the game.

Bright side: Our normal high temp for January 30 is 25 degrees. January 31 average high?.... 26.

We are on the ascendency!
