A good friend of mine (prolly 75ish yrs old) tells me tales of his past. Him and his brother worked a summer job back in the day to reclaim railroad ties from old abandoned tracks. According to him, getting the tracks up and off was easy. Digging out the railroad ties were a bitch.
I put a quarter on a rail once... it got smooched but didn't derail the train.
