Poll Question: What is it about a song most important to you?

For me it's the music. I can deal with a so so singer as long as there's a good tune. And without said tune, the greatest vocalist in history won't keep me interested.

Lyrics are right out. If the other aspects are on point, any old gibberish can sound great.

Wife tells me there is no way the words are most important in my world, because I'm always singing the wrong ones.

I don't think there is a universal answer. Some songs I focus on a(n) particular instrument(s), some on the lyrics, some on voice.

For example:
Bob Dylan - in many songs, his voice is atrocious but the lyrics in many songs are great.
James Brown - lyrics are not that impressive but the band around him is tight and full of sound.
Rush - many can't stand Geddy Lee's voice but the music and the lyrics are great.
Primus - how can you not zoom in on the bass play from Claypool?

No votes for the lyrics as most important.
McCartney better not be readying this thread.

At least Lennon isn't.

The music itself...includes melody, rhythm, harmonies, tempo...the melody is the signature of a song tho and is what identifies the song in my mind's ear...sometimes just hearing the first one or two notes of a melody, one can tell what song it is...
