Hello fellow puffers! I'm really new to the wonderful world of cigars and am looking to purchase a humidor. What brands do you all prefer? Are they really necessary? What are the best products to care for it? Any advice is appreciated. 🇨🇮

Use lot's of closet hangar cedar... Wicked good flavah.

But seriously, have you thought about a tupperadore? Much better air seals (if you get one with a gasket), larger capacity, easier to keep RH steady.

Lots of people like the Sistema containers. I use some 19Qt. tubs from the Container Store (https://www.containerstore.com/s/storage/plastic-bins-baskets/clear-weathertight-totes/12d?p=0&ps=62&productId=10026213).

Others here have converted large coolers... Do some searches in the threads here and you will find lot's of useful info.

Coleman, Igloo, Sistema or whatever decent cooler/sealed container you can find.

I think you will find that most folks are not using traditional humidors as they are a ton of work. coolers and Tupperware seal perfect and keep the humidity from flexing without the need to maintain much in the way of care. Throw in some Boveda and forgetaboutit.

Also, pick something small for storage. Everyone always thinks this is going to turn into some giant hobby/obsession and they buy giant containers, but that never really happens... You always end up with more storage than you need...

If you plan on using Tupperware and don't have any, buy it now as Tupperware is in financial trouble. Any container that seals is good for storage, but beware of any odor on previously used plastics.

Even new ones I'd recommend washing just to be safe, but yeah, an airtight container is going to be less hassle than a wooden humidor.

I've got a Club Chairside cabinet humidor... and it is NOT a ton of work.

I use heartfelt humidity beads (and they're old as hell by now and still work) and distilled water here and there when needed.

Pelican cases work well if you have one hanging around.

Coolers or other quality, odorless plastic containers work well.
MOST wood humidors you see here and at other cigar sites, especially those with glass tops, in the 70-100 range, are crap.
You might get lucky and find a cheapie with a good seal, but that is the exception and not the rule.

Very few quality wood humidor makers around anymore.
One of the best, long since out of business, are humidors made by G Watts.
They are around (previously owned) here and there on the internet.

I greatly improved a couple of my cheap humis with some weather stripping. Still have to add water about 3x as much as cooler though
