I am pretty much over it as far as politics go. Of the people, by the people, and for the people was forgotten long ago. We vote for conservative oligarchs or liberal oligarchs, our government is not run by politicians, it is run by oligarchs. This has been the demise of every great society. I think the only uncertainties are how long will the demise take, will we land like Rome or Great Britain, and who will be the next great society?

You are right Spey, all governments are just growing gangs of thieves and killers pretending to be the rightful rulers.

Just a question of how long it will take and where we are on the curve.

So Trump has gone on record as being in favor of the individual states deciding what if any abortion rights will exist within a particular state as long as there are exceptions for rape, incest and mother’s health. Shortly thereafter Pence said he slapped right to lifer supporters in the face by not supporting a federal ban.

Makes sense to me. I mean a candidate who is trying to get elected should take a stand opposite what 62ish percent of the polled electorate strongly support. Sounds like sage advice to me. Remind me why Republicans couldn’t take the Senate and an overwhelming majority in the House in an midterm election when the sitting President who happens to be in the opposition party was enjoying some of the lowest approval ratings in recorded history.

I see an interesting road ahead of the Republican Party. Eventually moderates will leave the party and perhaps form a third party and hand over the Republican Party to the evangelical right which controls about 20% of the total electorate. If we’re lucky, enough moderates will leave the Democratic Party as well and join the moderate ex-Republicans thus moving the country more towards the center. Perhaps they will have a large enough majority to end the extremism and get back to legislating our way out of this mess.

Anth, I agree.

Speaking of the religous right, did you read what MJT said: It was to the effect of: "The recent earthquakes and tornadoes in the U.S. are a "sign from God that our country needs to repent."

If an 8.0 hits San Francisco she might be right.

In the meantime liberals think the eclipse and earthquake are a sign from the God of climate change.

What's scary is that at least 20% of the electorate would agree with her.

The last time states tried removing a presidential nominee from their ballot great things happened right?

Looks like I need to revise my prediction made in the OP.

A quote attributed to Obama sums it up pretty good. "Don't underestimate Joe's ability to fuck things up."

Looks like Obama’s prediction may have been a prophetic.

Trump goes to the convention and withdraws his name from the nomination, saying it is better to have someone who will unite conservatives across the country, for the good of the country. A moderate gets the nomination. That moderate does a check-the-box diversity selection as veep.

Republicans surge ahead in the polls.

Biden, down by 15 points enters the DNC convention and announces for the good of the country, he an Kamala are not accepting the party's nomination, because this election is too important for an aged man and a woman with no clue. A beige to tan, moderate female gets the nomination. Running mate choosen is the dreamy Gavin Newsome.

The Democrats surge in the polls, up 1% to 2% over the Republicans.

The two candidates get on a debate stage, explain their posisitions- what they want to do and their vision for how they will do it.

The toxcity of the election is cut by a third, and we can start figuring out out to start chipping away at our national debt and start talking with, instead of at each other.

Current Odds of the above happening: 1,000,000 to 1.

So there is a chance.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t be surprised if Biden announced he wasn’t going to accept the nomination. I’m betting there is behind the scenes maneuvering in that direction going on. The Democratic puppet masters have to realize that short of that Trump gets elected and the Republicans pick up seats in both the Senate and the House.
