Try brining a 7-8 lb shoulder from Sam's club, Hockeydad... (Sam's has bone in, Costco cuts them out). 1 gallon water, 1 cup kosher salt and 1 cup brown sugar. Let the butt sit in that for 24 hours. Pat it dry, slather it in mustard and apply your favorite rub. Let it sit for another couple hours at room temp and then smoke it.

Hickory wood.

Sublime.

Made it through the week and looks like some actual dry weather for the weekend. May have to machete the lawn back down to size

Going shooting sporting clays tomorrow with my in-laws. After that head north to meet up with SOB for passing off the box pass. Then home to mow the lawn, then hitching up my log splitter and chainsaw to help a buddy with a tree. If there's enough time left in the day I hope to pick up a skidloader from father in law so I can get started cutting in a driveway extension at my parents house for parking their camper. And then the weekend will be over.

Kids... They grow up too fast. Someone said it here and it has burned in my brain. Paraphrase: Sometimes the days are long but the years go by fast.

Next week is my daughters senior prom. Where did the time go and can I stick a GPS tracker on her back or something without her knowing?

Time only moves in one direction. Kids grow up from infants, toddlers, young kids and turn into teens and then adults. It's fun to watch them grow but damn, it would be nice to have the Ground Hog day (movie reference) and be able re-live some of those days the past. For me, the best times in my adult life is watching them grow and "seeing" things all over again through their eyes. Answering questions of "why" which made me think "why" too. The questions on how does this work? Why do we do that? So I can't color on the walls or stick a fork in an electrical outlet or pretend the dog is a horse to ride? (all true stories).

If they know it or not, I've leaned from them more than I can give back.

Speaking of the Groundhog Day movie. I hear they are going to make a remake of it. It will be the same movie played over and over each day in the theaters.

Bucky you are scaring me, my oldest is in first grade, but I think I know exactly how you feel. Every stage of their lives I want to press pause and make it last longer, but then the next stage turns out to be even better.

Congrats on getting her to this stage in life successfully! I hope you have many more moments of joy with and because of her.

I don't need help feeling old. 🌫

Mornin' my cigar smokin', beer drinkin', whiskey sippin' asshat brethren. 🍺 🇨🇮

Woke up at a quarter to 7. Just me and the dog still in da bed... got up, got dressed and did the walk before it gets too hot. Had coffee after the walk, so that was a little backwards.

Happy Saturday.

You need some Ben Gay to help with the arthritis and some mothballs to store your winter clothes. Then brew a pot of coffee in the peculator on the gas stove. Those are some of the smells and sounds that I miss when visiting my grandparents.

Yeah, I'm getting old but today will be a good day. Happy Saturday to everyone. Also, Happy Mother's Day (a day early) to all Mother's out there.

Just make sure to go out of your way to be home for dinner every night; and do whatever it takes to spend quality time with them. One on one and together- whatever they want to do. Then they won't grow up too fast and you will establish deeper, more meaningful relationships with them and as a family.

I have no regrets. I was always "present' and engaged. You can be too. Be there when they first walk and all other life milestones.

Up at 4:00, coffeed up and out the door by 5:30. Did 6.2 miles, had a cigar on the patio and took the '65 Vette out for some exercise and stirred the 4 speed. Stopped off for gas and checked the liquids and tires. Going to meet friends for lunch at a brewery so prolly have some suds and a burger.

Never shot sporting clays but have shot trap and skeet a few times. I'm guessing not knowing when and where the birds are flying is a lot more challenging?
